Is dealer fibbing?

Lizard,

Don't feel too bad. Dealer bashing is ok, but you should use a disclaimer :D That is unless I deserve it.

I've got a 97 too and noticed this feature when I replaced the mast. I assumed it was a "break to fit" installation (for example, all the Chrysler power window units use the same track part #) so I broke off several teeth at a time from the nylon track thingy until it stopped where I wanted it to.

Does it still fully extend? I'd like mine to fully retract with radio on, but I'd hate to give up any inches

I just checked my setup amd found out that my antenna doesn't go up or down with my radio. So that is the reason why my manual button takes the antenna all the way down. I will check what happened with the connection from the radio.

Wow guys! Thanks for all the input.

Didn't realize an antenna question would elicit such participation!

I had the antenna replaced because it was under warranty and I just wanted to make sure it was installed correctly -- so that when/if it malfunctions again (and NOT under warranty) I don't have to fight with the dealer about it.

So it appears the 80/Lexus of 1997 have an antenna limit using manual down button while the radio's on...

Thanks again for all the input!
