IPF Wiring and Headlight Upgrade

Figured out the problem with the dim low beams and non working high beam indicator after installing the ARB M002/M004 in my 62.

If you are keeping your stock sealed beam lights you will have to re-wire the headlight connectors of the M002 harness. You also have to re-wire the pick-up connector of that harness as well. It has to match how the original headlight harness is. There is a diagram on page 2 of the M002 instructions. There is also a note just above the diagram that mentions if you are 'retaining original headlights some reworking may be required"

I rewired the pick-up but failed to see the note about the headlight connector the 10 times I read the instructions. Figured it out by troubleshooting the harness and fixing it. I then went back to the instructions and there was the note. Duh.

Anyway, headlights all working brighter now and High beam indicator is working as well.

Sweet, glad to hear you were able to get it to work correctly. Thanks again!

I purchased the same setup from cruiseroutfitters for my FJ60 as well- IPF harness, lights, and 55/60 bulbs. Easy install and excellent improvement in low and high beam lights! Definitely worth it!

Question. I have a fj60 and I just got my M002 harness. I tried to install and my low beams do not work but my high beams work. Also mine didn't come with anything yellow. What do I plug into what?

I figured it out. Because my M002 didn't identify relay number 1 with a yellow dot I had them switched. I looked caredully at their schematic layout and realized the relays were in the wrong locations. The harness makes it brighter. I will switch the H4 for a more whiter bulb.

What did that third plug go into? Do you just leave it open and disconnected? I have the exact same problem with mine brights but no regular. I must have my relays in the wrong locations. No yellow indicator on mine either. I figured it goes to the one with the yellow wire in there. Guess I was wrong... Waiting for the rain to stop to investigate.

Rain stopped... I moved the relays around... No dice. I still have no regular lights. Over the weekend I took my steering wheel off and did the ol clean up the switch as my brights did't work in the forward "hold" position. Put it back together and everything worked great again. Did the ARB headlight harness yesterday, now no head lights. What should I check next for no "regular" lights?

There is an empty plug on the ARB harness. Is that for the 62 with 4 headlights? Do I just leave that unplugged and put some E tape on it?
Little help please??

I just installed this kit on my rig today and everything works as it should. I had to look long and hard at the instructions about the different relays in the right place before it made sense to me -- especially since nothing was marked with a yellow dot like the instructions said there would be.

I don't know if having relays in the wrong place is what's happening for you, but just in case: My kit came with 3 relays that plug into the harness -- two of the relays are the same, the third one has a different part number. Double-check the part numbers written on each relay to identify the "special" one. That one has to go in a particular position for the high beams to work right, apparently.

Here's how I made sense of where to put it: Two of the harness' white plugs plug into each other, leaving a third white plug empty (I think that's where the loom for the FJ62 plugs into). That third empty white plug's wires lead to two of the three relay socket locations. The relay socket those wires do NOT lead to is where the "special" relay goes.

Hope this helps...

Edit: It's finally dark outside and I took it out for a spin. Oh my god, what a difference! It's like (wait for it...) night and day! I wish I'd done this years ago.

Thanks for the help and suggestions. Did you buy the ARB version? I'm almost certain I have the relays in the right locations as you've stated above. Did you have one wire that had a yellow stripe? If so is that the one with the oddball relay?

Yes, I have the ARB version. I too had the yellow-striped wire and figured that had to be what they meant about it being marked with yellow. I'd have to go look under the hood to be certain, but I'm 99% sure that that was the oddball relay.

Yea, If you could let me know I would really appreciate it. That's my fear is I have it in the correct place but something isn't jiving.

I just checked under my hood. I was wrong. The socket with the yellow-striped wire is NOT where the oddball relay goes.

It's like I said a few posts ago, it goes into the one whose wires do NOT lead to the empty white plug. So: no yellow-stripe wire, no connection to the plug that's left empty. Good luck!

Success! Just had to move the relays around. Only issue I'm having now is my brights are super sometimsey in the "hold/forward" position. Not sure what's going on there. Thanks for the help @twobuck

Awesome! Glad it finally worked out for you!
