Got my I-pad holder from Padholdr.com today. It has a neat bracket that installs in the dash using the little bolts next to the radio. I'll be testing this on some trails near Prescott next weekend and report back.

I have been using Motion X GPS HD for a while now and I think it is better than most other (and far more expensive) options. I was using a Garmin before. The terrain maps are good and the google earth overlay is great. The track recorder is cool. You can even upload waypoints from trails found on the internet. One weakness is that you can't string waypoints together to create a track.

I would be interested to hear opinions from others that are using used Motion X

I like it.
I use it on my iPad as well. I have mine mounted with a Ram suction mount putting the iPad right over the radio bezel. It blocks the AC vent but I usually am a windows down kind of guy. I really like the control layout of Motion X compared to others. My iPad is not 3G so I have a Dual bluetooth GPS receiver which works great. I usually store the maps of the area I am going to for offline use. I have used my wifi hotspot to get maps in realtime as well.

Sweet looking

Motion X HD is one of the better ones out there. I like the mount.

Getting back on this I-pad holder from padholdr.com. Thoroughly tested on some serious AZ trails (Gunsight Pass and Desoto Mine) and it held up perfectly. Highly recommended.

I'm using MotionX on the iPad2 here in Baton Rouge, just to familiarize myself; it helped when we were up in Tunica Hills yesterday. I running w/o a cellular signal, because where I want to to, there's no such thing. I find the map download part to be rather slow.

I don't know if I'm ready yet to trust the iPad/MotionX combo over my Mac Powerbook/MacGPSPro combo that has worked very well for me. I'm actually surprised how well that computer (vintage 2004) has held up over a lot of AZ/UT desert miles in the past 5 years or so. I find I prefer not to have to bother with iTunes, just buy my maps, load them and go.

Agreed on the slow map downloads. Took 12 hours for Tucson and surrounding trail areas. But maps are excellent and free. Running w/o cellular is a given in just about anywhere fun. I'm loving the Google earth option although not perfect.

Curious about how the Ram mount has held up to the iPad for you? I've wanted to try the Ram mount for the IPad.

I haven't used it in months since the LC is still in the shop getting the diesel put in. It held up great from Texas to Washington, with a stop in Moab, when I dropped off the LC.

I have had my Ram Mount (universal mount to seat base) + iPad in my rig for 1-2 yrs now with absolutely no issues. It has a small impact on passenger leg room, but my wife has never complained. For DD navigation duty I prefer Waze, its free, fast, and has the best traffic intel. For running trails I was loving MotionX, but no longer being able to cache aerial imagery has killed it for me, but I haven't found a good replacement yet. I also have a Ram suction mount for my phone, but I haven't tried swapping the heads to mount the iPad yet.

I've been using Motion X GPS for about 3 years or so. I first got it as a novelty for when I'm onboard the ship (aircraft carrier) for work. I can take it up to the flight deck and know where I am. It has downloadable NOAA maps which is cool. After I bought the Cruiser I started using it for wheeling downloading the topo maps for free. It is really cool to be able to import GPX files for trails you find on the net. On a recent work trip to Fallon Nevada I downloaded several trails to check out. I do have a complaint about starting the navigation to a way point. It takes too many taps to make it happen. And on my iphone it is really small to see at a glance. May have to invest in an ipad but is it really that big of a deal? I'm not sure.
