I was wondering if anyone else is using this setup. I am using this with Motion X GPS HD maps offline, and it works spot on. I did a test run north of Lake Pleasant this past weekend, around China Dam & Fort Tule area. Laid in GPS way points and did not have a single problem.

I used a Bad Elf and my iPhone with Motion X (in BT mode only) on Hassayampa Trail Box Canyon (NW of Wickenburg). Worked perfectly. Really like being able to navigate and lay down tracks without any cell or wifi sigs. That was the first real off-road experience for our new rig...and we took it swimming. Worked famously.

Very nice. I like the fact that you can download TOPO maps from USFS or other maps from various places and import them. I have the IPad Air setup with a floor mount RAM system, and a Slipgrip holder for the IPad Griffin Survivor case. I also like the Motion X GPS HD app. It allows you to record your tracks, and displays other information I have found useful. I also like the fact that I have a nice size screen with the IPad Air, and with the Bad Elf plug in, I am not dependant upon cellular data for navigation or the AGPS chip in the IPad.

we have been using Motion X GPS on our iPad for quite a while now - works well with an external GPS receiver as well as the internal one

GAIA is my favorite app period. I also have Motion X and have tried others. I have the DUAL GPS BT but I think the Bad Elf BT is very similar. I have an old iPad 4 oh so sad..... :)
