Having scoured this forum for knowledge and been impressed with the ethos and experience here when thinking about getting an 80, I finally took the plunge and bought one. So I have joined up. The LC is a 20 years old VX diesel and will replace my 42 year old Lightweight Series 111 landrover. It will soon be resprayed RAL 8000 which is as close as I can get to "Coyote Brown". I suspect this make provoke some outrage but I will post pictures in a couple of weeks time if I have not been thrown out by then.

Welcome Sean. check out lcoc.ie for local info and advice from fellow cruiser heads.
Regards Bob, Wexford.

Welcome to the forum mate....and a piece of advise: this stuff can be addictive and will, most definitely, squeeze your wallet...just kidding indeed.
As probably you know by now, here in the US, we didn't had neither the diesel engine and/or the manual tranny (a real shame IMO). To compensate for that, we drive on the right side of the road....Other than that, and to the best of my understanding, the rest is basically the same. If you have a build up plan for your rig, this is the site for sure.
Also, if you plan doing overlanding you might want to check:

Please share pics when available
Good luck

Expecting to be back in Galway in Aug/Sept 2015
Driving a 97 (petrol) 80 model with 270K on the clock (abotu 50K on engine). Wish I had diesel or LPG conversion (which had before when in Scotland with same type truck)

Wondering why the "hit" will be for taxes, emissions, MOT/nCD and other "oh! you'll need to have this done" for such an old truck?

thats the Irish way to reply -- to be sure -- to be sure !

Here is the 80 in it's new livery, as close as I could get to Coyote Brown. The colour is RAL 8000 which I discovered, after much research from a vehicle modelling web site, which had a debate on the colour used by the German WW11 army in North Africa. There was no consensus but the best posts I read came from a vehicle manufacturer who has been painting his vehicles in this colour . Like it or hate it, I still like driving this vehicle!
