Hey new 150 series owner here looking to build up to a decent overland rig. Looking forward to sharing the knowledge and learning. Have spent a lot of time in the 200, 300, and as part of my work and had 120series and early 4Runners in the past. Really liking the look of the 250 and latest 4Runner, will be interesting to follow them and see how they measure up to the old ones.

Congrats on your new GX!
Disappointed you didn't include some pictures. :(
We'd live to see what you have and more pic's as you build it up!
The 150 is a great platform to build on. The only limitations would if there's enough space for whatever equipment and who all you plan on traveling with.
Some prefer a larger rig like the full size LC's, full size trucks or Sprinter vans.
The beauty of the GX is it's small enough to fit on Jeep trails, between tight spots, tight switchbacks, etc. I first overlander was a Ford F350 crewcab (8' bed). It had everything, 37" tires, 6" suspension, 15,000 lb winch, 3 air compressors, everything. But it didn't off road that will because of it's length and width. Open areas like desert, it was great! But when we got in the high country or tight trails, I couldn't go any further and had to turn back.
Below is the first overlander I built. I designed and built the entire over-the-shell rack myself. Sourced the snorkel from a Land Rover Defender because it had the same angles of the F 350 "A" pillar and the same side of the truck for the air cleaner. Took a long time to find that right snorkel.

Dude, that thing is sweet. Do you still have it?

Nope. Rolled it when I was coming down from climbing Mt. Whitney. Did a 3/4 roll over and landed on the passenger side. Climbed out of the drivers window. My only injury was a scratch on my left hand. Totaled the truck (duhhh ).
Funny thing is a fellow in the midwest bought it as a salvaged vehicle and was going to part it out. So many of his buddies thought is was so cool, that he should keep it and rebuild it. So he when a purchased another F350 crewcab, around the same year, a put everything I had on mine onto the new truck, including my front and rear ARB lockers, custom leaf pack spring, everything. The only difference to make it "his" is he changed all the red paint to bright lime green.
He sent me some photos of it when he finished (below).

It kind of makes you feel a little happy when something you worked long and hard on is appreciated by someone else.

Wow what a bittersweet story. What a bummer.

Oh and the red looked better.
