Here is the story, I used to own an 80 series but I got bored of that project and have always longed for a 40. I found a guy on MUD and traded him strait across for my 80. Here are some pictures of what I got.

I quickly removed the junk out of the inside (spare doors, parts, broken glass, etc,) and it looked like this,

fortunatly it runs, (smokes and drips oil like crazy)
needless to say, the body is garbage and IMO unrepairable. So I casualy started looking for an new tub. It wasnt long before I responded to a guy who had a '78 tub for "cheep" on CL.
Turns out "cheep" ment FREE! So I went to take a look,
Typical rusted rear sill, but forturnatly, almost no where else. So I loaded it up in my truck and brought it home. (My GF wasnt soo happy.)
Here is what it looks like.

So this leads me to my questions,
the PO of this tub was prepairing it for a V8 swap and cut out some parts of the fire wall. I think its repairable, but I wanted to know what you guys think. I am not trying to build a 10 but maybe an 8 ( on a 1-10 scale). Please look at the areas I have 'squared' and let me know if its repairable. Or if I should just replace the whole firewall. Thanks, Dave.
BTW my plans are to build a mostly stocker, mild lift, 33's stock wheels etc. Prolly do some mild wheeling and camping/fishing, cruising around town, etc.

Gonna have to take lots of that appart to stop the corrossion, but good score for free, especially since its not the tube but the whole body. Good one and good luck keep us posted

Hi All:

That tub doesn't look too bad to me!

Remember, the old firewall/cowl can be a donor for repair of the later model body tub.

Good score!

Alan

Thanks, should be a fun project. I have been reading ALOT of peoples threads here and found some great information, and pictures.

Here is anothere picture of the damaged area in the firewall.
