My name is Cameron and I've been in the Charleston area for about 5 years. I recently upgraded from a 97 4runner to a 93 land cruiser. I met David (debenke) at lowes about 2 weeks ago and he gave me some information about low country land cruisers. He mentioned that y'all get together and work on each other cruisers and i would like to see if i can attend. I would like to learn more about fixing my cruiser

good to see you on here, we have our Lowcountry Boil re-scheduled for next weekend, come join us.
Our next HAMOM (help a member) is Nov 7th, nothing scheduled yet, we can probably get your truck on the lift and check it out

Welcome! Always good to see another 80 Series! What are your plans for the truck?

Hi Everyone,

Quick intro - I'm Alex and live in West Ashley.

I'm picking up a 97 FJ80 this Sunday and I'm excited to get it properly sorted in the near future. I plan to do the oil leak fix myself, then modify it a bit. Nothing too crazy as I already have two other project cars... I plan to do an OME 2.5 lift, BFG AT 35s and an ARB bumper - then some time to just drive, maintain and enjoy it. I also can't wait to see it pull my 17' Whaler.

I owned a FJ60 back in the mid 90's and loved that truck! Really excited to get back into a Land Cruiser, and I look forward to meeting and learning from y'all.

Cheers,
Alex

Welcome Cameron & Alex, y'all have obviously found our clubhouse on Mud, we also have a website and Facebook page. We would like to have you join us at these upcoming events. Alex, we like pics so post 'em up.

watch out for these guys..... they will have you wrenching, changing radiators, installing winches, rebuilidng hubs, servicing transmissions, mixing concrete, wheeling, camping, cruising, and all kinds of other stuff. It's addictive, and once they get you hooked, they wont stop. never. ever. at all.

sushhh!!, Erik not all at once, you don't want to scare them off, do you??
Seriously, though, we do all that stuff and have a good time doing it.

Haha I get the feeling we'll get along well. I love projects and am not scared to get my hands dirty especially with the opportunity to make my mistakes on someone else's vehicle ;)

Only photo I currently have, waiting for the weather to clear up before going to fetch the truck Sunday.

looks good, but we will make it look better !!!
(i.e. lift, tires, bumpers, etc.)

Is it locked??

BaaaWaaaHaaaHaaa, if not yet.... wait until the first HAMOM! These guys will have it triple Locked, Lifted, Sprung Over, Winches installed (front & rea), and hook you up with a set a takeoff Bigfoot Tractor Tires they get from a 'guy' in N Cacalac! or maybe not.... Maybe we'll just look it over and tell you what we would do to it....

Lovin the warm welcome. My friend Michael B. is also a member of your crew, so I'm that much more excited to meet y'all.

Unfortunately the FJ doesn't have locking diffs, booooo. I don't know that my style of off-roading will need them, but sure woulda been nice.

The truck arrived last night, and is super solid with no rust, but needs a little work - oil leak on the front of the engine, and a water leak somewhere on the passenger side. Do y'all think Lextech is the place to go for work on that oil leak?

After that is sorted, the plan is for an OME 2.5" Lift, 315/75 BFG AT, regear and a Slee Shortbus Bumper. After that I think I'll enjoy the truck for a while and get to know it better.

Wish I could make the boil this weekend, I have another commitment Sat late day and don't think I could make it. Count me in for the next meet though, excited to be back in a Land Cruiser!

Lex-Tech is the place to go if you can't fix it yourself.
We do quite a bit at hamoms also, just ask.
We can sure help with the lift and the bumper.

That's a good looking 80! There are a lot of colors that I like - but none are as forgiving as white. You'll appreciate that your car always looks clean after a ride in Uwharrie and that scratches and trail rash just don't seem to show up. If my 80 died today, I'd be in search of a White 97 to build. Anyhow, welcome! By Michael B, do you mean, Michael B of the Bessinger persuasion? I had lunch with him today - his screen name on here is @BBQ BOY .

Alex contacted me a few days ago saying he's now apart of the club. We've known each since grade school. He's good people.
Alex got an early start with Cruisers. I do remember he took off with his fathers FJ60 in high school and buried it up to the axles in Mt. P. Lol.

That's that dude. Correction, we buried the FJ60 to the floorboards! I don't know that he's ever found out so sssshhhh...

And thank you Michael for not telling the story of the premature demise of that truck. We can also share stories of Timmy's FJ40 with the duct tape hood and fence post door clips.

Hope the lowcountry boil was a good time and I look forward to meeting y'all at the next get together.

Cheers,
Alex
