Thanks guys. The truck is mechanically in great shape; I had a reputable (per Ih8mud) Cruiser mechanic on the west coast do an inspection and he was very complimentary of the vehicle.

It's an 89 with 139K on the original drive-train. Interior is in great shape and nearly everything seems to work at this point (rear door lock actuators don't seem to be able to drive the lock mechanism up and down, but I haven't found much else wrong). It's got a wee bit of rust on the bottom of the drivers side door that will have to be addressed at some point, but the body appears to be in great condition otherwise. It needs a new antenna, though I'll probably swap out the original stereo for something more modern when I replace the antenna.

As for prioritizing upgrades; I'm focused on making it as mechanically sound as I can right now. The PO put the lift/tires on, but didn't bother to get a spare so the one on the vehicle needs to be replaced. The wheels probably need a little more backspacing as well as they are nearly sitting on the (tie-rod?) bolts at the end of the axle so I need spacers or new wheels. The guys that did the shackle reverse tack welded the suspension in, which I understand is by the book, but I'd like to have full welds before doing anything too serious off-road (personal preference). The lights on the ARB aren't wired up, so I'd like to get them wired in at some point. The knuckles will need to be rebuilt down the road as well, so that's another thing on the list.

Do I detect the makings of another HAMOM?

Well...I'm not the handiest guy around, but I'm eager to learn and will gladly accept the help. I've been known to produce reasonably edible BBQ, I have the ability to chill and keep beer cold, and a decent work space at the house. Bring it on. Disc brake conversion? Auxiliary AT cooler? Stereo/antenna swap? Projects galore, right?! Drugs are probably a less expensive habit than this truck will become

Got word that my FJ is getting picked up this afternoon for transport back to SC; picked up by a transport out of Dillon, SC of all places. Can't wait to get my hands back on her!

I would like to introduce myself. I live in Mt Pleasant and last spring, I purchased my first Land Cruiser, '94 stock, diff locked, >200K miles, a few things broke, but the price was right. A more experienced friend helped me replace the radiator, A/C compressor, receiver, and expansion valve. I have a lot more to go, but the major issues are fixed. My goal, an ambitious one, is to do a diesel swap. I found a Cummins 4BT, but changed my mind and purchased an Isuzu 4BD. I'm looking for a NV4500 tranny among a few other odds and ends. Hopefully, this year I'll be able to do it, I found a guy in Atlanta that has a lot of experience doing this, but he will only do the mechanical. leaving me to do the wiring. I'm an avid hunter and need a dependable rig to get me to Maine or Montana, and not get me stuck when I'm a hundred miles from nowhere. When it comes to turning a wrench, I have more ambition than experience, so I welcome the opportunity to learn, help or watch. I look forward to getting involved.

Welcome to the madness.
I'm in Mt. Pleasant also, off Rifle Range Road, and have an auto mechanics background. You do have some big ambitions, although obtainable.
I would check on the (tech 80) forum, I'm sure someone has already done what you propose.
If I (we) can help, let me know.
David

Welcome...come on out to our meeting on the 15th...be good to meet you.

Scott, am I reading your signature correctly? Did you get rid of the Grand Cherokee and buy a Wrangler for Becca?

Yes, he did

Cool, Congratulations! You know you have to break it in at GSMTR!!!

Hello everyone, I live in Boone, NC but spend a lot of time in Charleston. I've been out of the land cruiser game for many years but just recently purchased an immaculate locked 97 FZJ80. I've got a lot to learn about the 80 series.

Most of my wrenching/parts buying is done in Charleston so perhaps I'll be around.
After I figure out what maintenance needs to be done, I'm thinking a 2.5" EMU lift and ARB bullbar.

Welcome...come join us at our HAMOMS, almost every month. we have some 80's in the club that we wrench on, so we know a little about them.

Welcome, VehiculousFJ from Boone! Ditto what David said - come on over and we will wrench on your cruiser with you!
