I am looking for a one bedroom, I really want a garage but I guess carport would do. A small house would be great, looking to spend in the 1k range. Going to be weird living in an apartment as I have not since the early 90's

Thanks!

How bad is this area? 4105 W Oregon ave at Camelback and 43 ave.

$1150.00 per mo. 1995 sq foot house with 2 car garage.

Tim has more knowledge of the 40-60 series(s) than anyone I have ever met, and is the only place to find new trannies, and axles, and hard to find small parts. He sounds like he wants to retire from the cruiser parts game here shortly, so I need to load a trailer up soon!

Tim's been talking about it for years. He'll die out there surrounded by them and one will be his tombstone. I just bought a 78 dizzy from him, and we talked all afternoon. From all my rebuilds, I have a bunch of parts I want to unload on him.

I'm Don, from Tucson, and I've had my FJ40 since 87. It started life as an early 69, and that's what the title still says. However, it has a 72 body on it, and a 2F from a 77. I'm fairly new to the forum, but not to LandCruisers.

I use to work at 43ave and indian school......we always said that all the shooting s in phx happened within a 5mile radious of that location. The more you watch the news the more you find out that is actually the case. I would not move my family into that area, unless it was the last resort. Sorry

Thanks. I figured it was too much house for too little $.

There's a ton of properties in that price range in Mesa and Gilbert. I'm an East Sider so I'm biased, but that's where I'd be lookin.

Thanks I looked and Mesa is a few hundread less. (for apartments) I'd really like a house.

Hello All. New here as of today. Just bought my first LC, an FZJ80 a couple weeks ago. It's 100% stock. It has a bit of a knock at times in the engine on start-up and during acceleration so I've not driven it much. I found an engine out of an 88 last week through a friend while I was in El Paso visiting family. Its supposed to have under 100k on it. We'll find out soon, I hope. My friends dad was there with his pick-up and was able to get it back here to Chandler for me. Lucky eh? I'm curently searching for someone to swap out the motors for me. Looks like my pocket book is going to get dinged pretty hard. I'm open to suggestions if anyone can help. A rebuild on the existing is not out of the question if the $$ is right. I'm hoping to have everything together before Christmas because I want to drive it down to Cabo San Lucas/Todos Santos/La Paz for Christmas/New Years. I'm taking both of my teenage daughters, it will be a blast. I've not driven Baja in about 12 years. I'd really like to get out 4 wheeling again. I've not hit any trails here in AZ in over 5 years. Sold my Samurai and have regretted it ever since! Had some pretty serious health issues since then that have prevented me from devoting time and money into another truck but I am ready to get my feet wet once again. I had some of the greatest times doing the Crown King Jeep trail, Four Peaks in the snow, White Mts, Superstitions, camping the beach in Rocky Point, etc... Well, I'm off to pool league.

Welcome remmrtn. If you have a FZJ80 then that 88 motor is not the one for your truck. The 88 has a 3FE.

80 series had the 3FE until 92 and was called a FJ80 93 and up are FJZ80's and have the 1FZ-FE.

A slight rattle at startup in no way equates to needing a motor.

Well, I'm hoping I am wrong then about it being an FZJ80. As I said I am a first time Toyota 4WD owner and have lots to learn. My Land Cruiser is a 1992 model and the VIN has an FJ in it as opposed to an FZJ so hopefully I just misspoke instead of buying the wrong motor. I see by your posts you will be moving to AZ pretty soon. Working in Scottsdale off of Raintree if I remember correctly. You would be best served to look in the Tempe/Mesa/ Chandler area, the 101 freeway corridor to be more specific. It would make the commute more palatable. But then again, if you are coming from Cali you could live anywhere in the Phx area and probably be OK with the drive time. I lived in San Diego for 12 years before moving here and occasionally did the commute to L.A. so I certainly know what the traffic is like. I appreciate your timely response and hopefully I'll hear that I'm just an ignoramus TLC owner who has the right engine but still has lots to learn. As far as the knock goes, I am about 90% sure it's a connecting rod bearing or something similar as I've heard this same noise in a couple of other vehicles I've owned over the years. But I'd certainly love to be proven wrong!

If it is a 92 you are all good. If you want to give my your vin I'll run it in the EPC and tell you exactly what it is.

Many 1FZ's have a rattle at startup that many (myself at first included) think is serious but is not.

I appreciate your input on the commute seems the consensus is Phoenix/Scottsdale with gas being what it is any savings living more than 10 miles away will go in my tank.

Sure, it's JT3FJ80WXN0046540. What is the EPC?

EPC is the electronic parts catalog. It is a January 92. 3FE it is. Here is the readout:

Looking at your vin I realised it has FJ80 in it so I looked at mine and gosh darn it if it isn't FZJ80 So now we know it's right there duh!

Well then today was a good day. We both learned something. I always tell people that the day I don't learn anything will be the day that I've died! So what other info does this EPC give you? I don't see anything other than the engine code which we've already learned is in the VIN. Turning in now, catch up w/u later. Thanks again.

It has all the parts and their part numbers in just about all Toyotas. That was just the opening page after you give it the vin.

Yup learning is always good!

Here is the 1FZ cylinder head:

Did someone say ROCKY POINT???

Not much of sandy beach left these days, after all the condos and golf course, to do any kind of camping on.

Still love the place and and I spend as much of my free time there as work permits. As a matter of fact, we'll be spending Thanksgiving down there.

Welcome remmrtn! Look forward to meeting you at a sonic meet (work permitting) or maybe south of the border soon.

¡Aquí está a la vida!

ROCKY POINT???

It isn't what it used to be! But it's still the closest beach for us parched desert denizens. Yeah the days of cruising up the beach all the way into town for a Pacifico are long gone. I go twice a year for a beach camp with a group of friend. End of April and beginning of October. Just spent Oct 19-23 there. Beautiful weather, good friends, little sailing, little cruising, little drinking.........ahem. April used to be an adults only trip and October for the kiddies, now it's all for the kids. Something about growing older and having kids. I'm a few years beyond the 40 mark and have mellowed out a bit over the years. We had about 20 people in camp this year, 9 were children ages 8 months to 15. Always the same core group with a few new ones every year. I've been going down yearly since I moved here in 1994 and the friends I go with have been making the trek for over 20 years. Great people and it's always an open invite so when April rolls around and you can swing Thursday through Monday (amost no lines at the border on Monday) anyone who wants to go is welcome.

Hey 94landcruiser, thanks for the info. I'm going to drive the beast down to a local shop here called Toyonda. Supposed to be owned by a former Toyota dealership/certified mechanic. Have them listen to my 'knocking' noise and see what they say. Anyone ever hear of them?

Randy

Just got back and it is in fact a rod bearing. So I guess I'll move forward with having the engine switched out. Apparently the intake/EFI needs to switched out but the block is identical.

I'm usually there around those times. I go down twice a year for the RCPM concert at Sunset Cantina 6,000 of my closest friends on the beach under the stars with great music... I wouldn't trade it! I was just there the weekend before you Oct. 11th thru the 16th. So I missed you by a couple of days.

It sounds great keep me posted. I love taking "Maggie" south of the border almost as much as she loves being driven down there.

Jami and I try to head down as often as we can, usually once a month or so during season and as work permits now. Before both of our work promotions, a few years back, all you had to do was mention Mexico to either of us and we were gone. Twice a month on average, no lies. We have some really great friends down there and it is always great to walk into a place in a foreign country and have a hearty welcome by name.:)
