Hello, i would like to introduce me on your forum.
I'm french (sorry for my English, i'll try to do my best).
I have a KZJ 90 LC built in 1997 with about 130000kms.
The engine is 3.0L Diesel (1kzte) without intercooler.

Equipment:

ARB Bull bar with internal winch 4.2T (ramsey)
EIBACK springs +40mm
Koni shock absorber adjustable
ATX Performance Wheels
Tyres 265*75*16 Bridgestones

I plan to install an intercooler (I'd just bought one origin PRADO) on my TLC but unfortunatly some parts are missing.
Today with my original serial Numbers, it's impossible to order any parts for this equipment because unknowed on the french data base.
My toyota dealer (in France) request serial numbers from PRADO including 1KZ-TE aircooled engine.

May be some people on the forum could help me finding original serial numbers + détails pictures of the air cooler + supports + connections on the exhaust turbo pipe +inlet admission .

Thank you in advance for your help

Best regards

I'll try to take some pics of the intercooler and mounting for you and post them up for all to see (as someelse may want to do the same.

After viewing the pics let me know what's missing and I'll try to get the part numbers form my local dealer.

Just a point to remember, my car is and Australian version. I don't think this should matter tho.

Give me a day or two to get the pics up.

Hie, thank you for your help.

Pictures will be very important to pass order for spare parts.

Concerning the identification of parts, i only need the serial number of your car (if you accept to give me) in order to connect the TOYOTA's foreign data base directly from France.

This can be done of course every where in the world for people which are in troubles outside of their original countries.
(The database of toyota is done like that)
Without original serial number nothing can be found

Best regards

Hie,

could you give me your complete VIN number because after checking with my local toyota's dealer, there is no possibilities to find any technical information with a incomplete number.

Hi fidou,

Sorry for the hold up, been out a town. Having trouble with pics ATM so not ready yet.

Numbers you need to complete my VIN are 168680

Let me know if you still need pics

Fidou,
Why don´t you try to contact these guys: www.all-american.nl
They make a front mounted intercooler kit for the 90's. My dad has one on his. I'm almost sure that it is cheaper then a toyota IC and maybe more efficient because it's front mounted.

Hie Troopie/ Dhula,

in fact, i have already the intercooler coming from Prado but incomplete.

I have made by myself connexion pipe on inlet cylinder cover, and just the pipe between the turbocharger and the aircooler is now missing.

I have check with Dhula's vin number but unfortunatly in my french dealer.

One advise don't come with your TLC in France, It's impossible to pass orders for spare parts for cars coming from abroard.
It's creazy but i think it 's the new policy every where in the world.

Coming back to my problem, i will also do this missing part by myself.

If you have some pics for it and also for the cooler's support on cylinder cover.

Is there a fan under the cooler?

Concerning my choice, i prefer a top cooler, a little bit less efficient concerning the cooling in comparison with front cooler, but more efficient for the torque and delay of turbocharging.

Hey fidou27. Have you got your intercooler installed? I think the same thing, but the emissions are the problem. How could I prove that they are what they should be after homemade intercooler assembly...?

Here is some pictures of original intercooler, they are from 4Runner KZN185, but I think the intercooler is identical compared to KZJ90: http://www.modelreports.com/acatalog/002-00070.pdf

I have no idea where I found this picture, but it seems that it looks like this after the installation of the intercooler.

I must admit, it looks great!

Unless there is something special with 120's from panama, they have the 1KD-FTV 163hp(?) 3.0L turbodiesel.
The 1KZ-TE 125hp did not have a intercooler.
The original intercooler from the 1KD-FTV will fit with some modifications to the air piping.
A better option that i used when i had a KDJ95 some years ago was to find a alu intercooler (mine was 550x230x65mm probably the largest you can fit without to much trouble) and front mount it.

The 1KD-FTV intercooler is a bad option as it will not give proper cooling due to the bad placing (on top of hot engine + really bad airflow). And a fairly high price. I bet you can have a workshop build a custom solution cheaper, and waaaay better.

Sorry, i did not read your first post properly, i see now you already have the intercooler, and are just looking for partnumbers on mounting hardware.
maybe this link will help:

1KDFTV intercooler

Pretty common here in 120 Prados with 1KZ-TE engines ..
