I have an imported, supercharged 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus with 74,000 miles that is having intermittent starting issues since I purchased it.
I bought it about 6 months ago. After driving it for a week or two it started having this issue where it would leave me stranded. It would start, run, and drive perfectly... I'd park it and come back out to leave and it would just crank and crank. I'd end up towing it back to my house or a shop only to have it start up perfectly the next day. It would then start, run, and drive great for maybe 3-7 days and then leave me stranded again. I took it to my buddies shop to have a ton of up keep done for peace of mind: timing belt, drive belts, starter, knock sensors, valve cover gasket kit, trans flush, Mishimoto radiator with flush, plugs, fuel filter, and oil change.
Unfortunately while it was at his shop he couldn't get the car to experience the starting issue. He assumed it might be an immobilizer issue with the Viper alarm that I bought it with. I had the Viper alarm professionally removed. The issue continued. So after researching I find the factory immobilizer bypass harness solution to the fuse box common problem. I made myself the harness and it seemed to work when my car was stranded again only to have it completely drain my battery. I replaced the battery and attempted to start it with the immobilizer bypass connected correctly and it wouldn't start. It's been 2 weeks now and it won't start at all now. I've tried different keys (I have 3), I installed a Walbro 255 fuel pump, and I just installed a new OEM crank position sensor. Still no luck... the truck won't start.
It is tuned with a GReddy E-Manage with upgraded injectors. ANY help is appreciated. At this point I'm just throwing money at it hoping something sticks and feel like I'm just beating my head against a wall.
Thanks in advance!
