2000 LC, I've owned it three months. PO service history included a visit some time back for an intermittent no-start problem, which the PO indicated had resolved, and it was pretty far back in the history so it didn't raise a red flag. I've put a little over 1,000 miles on the truck since purchase. In the last three days, I've had two instances of parking the truck and then coming back to it later and it not starting despite starter turning over, etc. Both times have been in the woods at the hunting camp, so not an ideal situation. The first time it happened on Friday, I thought it was the old battery not having sufficient juice, because I hooked up my jump start pack to it and it started right away. So, I put a new battery in it yesterday, and tonight it did the same thing when I came back to it after hunting, and this time I noticed that the red security light was blinking with the key in the ignition, which leads me to suspect an issue with the engine immobilizer not recognizing the key. I disconnected the battery negative and let it sit for about thirty seconds and reconnected it, still no start and still with red security light blinking. I tried locking and then unlocking the doors with the key, tried waiting it out, tried cursing at it, none of it worked. Left the car in the woods and got a ride home with a buddy.

I'm looking for ideas of the problem and a solution that will get the car started, otherwise, I'll call a tow truck, but that will be a significant logistical challenge (truck is parked in the woods about a hour from home). Any ideas?

Also, FWIW, I believe the key I have is the master, because when I first got the truck I did the test where I put the key in the ignition and the red security light went off immediately upon insertion of the key.

I'm going to reply to my own thread . . .

Found this thread, which describes my issue: no start immobilizer issue - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/no-start-immobilizer-issue.786461/#post-9736698

Interestingly, thinking back to the circumstances of the first time this happened on Friday, I had left my key in the "on" position for several minutes while I rummaged around an set up my jump starter, after which the truck started. Very similar to the situation described in Post #16 to the thread I've linked. I need to figure out the jumper fix described in the thread and carry that out to the hunting camp tomorrow, hopefully it will work.

Here's what I did. followed the thread and it hasn't failed in a couple of years.

I’ve implemented the temporary direct wire fix and will do the relay/jumper fix when I have the parts. See post #340 here for pics of how I wired it, I used an inline ATM 20A fuse.
