Does anyone know of any "80 specific" type of axe/shovel storage system for the 80 series? Looking for something that's easy access and not buried, secure, and not outside of the vehicle where some jagoff can steal it. Something sorta like this:

I put mine on the front side of the swingout tire carrier, the blade is painted black, and the D handle sticks out and functions as part of the grab handle for the swingout.

Your comment about not having something easy to steal is smart, but not having to put a muddy shovel in the interior of your truck is also something to consider. Besides a shovel would involve work, which is kind of the opposite of what most thieves are looking for.

If you have a swingout maybe consider it, I don't want to sprain my arm patting myself on the back here but it has worked well for me so far.

I just have a military entrenching tool (fancy military name for shovel) under my front passenger seat, plus a small axe and a machete....

If only someone made a cargo barrier to eliminate the potential :hmm:

There is that, but I prefer to prevent the issue in the first place. Plus I don’t think my dog wants an axe to the side of his head.

I tie mine down with rope to the third row pivot bar on the wheel hump. Effective, cheap and safe if you know your ropes.

I use " quick fist clamps", mounted where the third row grab handles were, used the factory holes. I have a fire extinguisher and an axe .

You should always clean your tools when finished with them (to some degree at least). In a pinch, a plastic bag over the shovel can help.

Now that would look weird if mounted up high, another good reason to keep things as low as possible.

Other reasons are: won't block view, theft deterrent, less of a projectile should a problem occur, et cetera....

Would the tailgate storage be deep enough? I guess maybe for the "right" shovel. And you'd need to secure them to keep down the noise and prevent damage to the actuator arms. But handy when needed and would keep the interior carpet cleaner.

I have my shovel attached to the third row seat mounts with one of those heavy duty velcro wraps. The wrap goes around it several times and is easy enough to undo when needed. At some point in the future (once I make a plan to install drawers) I'll come up with a more secure permanent solution.

When things get muddy from past experience there isn't a way to even somewhat clean it until it gets hosed off later. I got stuck in mud and fully understand why the site is called IH8MUD.
