Interest in Having Robbie/PowderPig in the SoCal Area

I am posting a separate thread, in the same vane as DougFJ62, to gauge interest in having Robbie down in the SoCal area (LA/OC/Riverside/surrounding counties/San Diego, and anybody who wants to drive in from elsewhere) to work his magic on our rigs. I have emailed Robbie about coming down to do a HG PM and a difflock retrofit on my 80, but right now 2 obstacles remain:

1. Not enough people- it's just me and possibly one other person in the LA area at this time. We need more people to sign up in the LA/OC area to make this feasible.

2. Both myself and the other person who are interested in Robbie's work in this area live in apartment buildings with no place to work. Additionally, I live in a small 1 bedroom apartment, and though I'd be happy to host Robbie there, for his comfort and ease of work, it would be preferable to have someone with a house and a driveway/garage to host him.

Timeframe-wise, I believe Robbie will be starting on the 5+ Northern Cali. rigs toward the end of October, and he needs to head back by the 3rd week of December, so he'd probably try to work us in within that window.

I am looking to see if there is anyone else who may want to take advantage of the rare opportunity of having Robbie work on their rigs while he is in the SoCal area. Please reply to this message only if you are interested for sure- we need definite jobs for this to happen and to keep Robbie's travel costs down.

Also, please let me know if you have a house with driveway / garage for Robbie to stay in / work from.

If you need more information, please click on my username and use the EMAIL link to contact me, NOT PM, as my PM box always seems to be full.

edit: Just to clarify: If you'd like more information, just click on my username and use the "Send email to alaskacruiser" link to contact me instead of the "Send private message to alaskacruiser" link. I need email contact so that I can reply with the attachments I have. Sorry if this was not clear.

Actually this is a possibility for me. I don't do my own stuff anymore due to work. But I have a headgasket and S/C install that is begging to start. I guess I would need to know timing and cost. If for any reason I get pulled out to do extended filming then I would have to back out.

To add to that my 86 needs one cylinder to be re-ringed along with a new head gasket. Depresses me that I could do it in a long weekend but just zero time.

NLXTACY- please send me an email and I will forward you some info.

dallen341 and NLXTACY- email sent. Please reply to this email so I can send you the info.

Just to clarify for others reading this- If you'd like more information, just click on my username and use the "Send email to alaskacruiser" link to contact me instead of the "Send private message to alaskacruiser" link. I need email contact so that I can reply with the attachments I have.

Hey beats the alternative. I'd rather be busy than not, you know? But, I know what you mean. It sucks not having the time to do what you want. Maintenance (non-safety) on my 80 is suffering as a result.

SOCALFJ- please send me an email (not a PM) so I can send you the attachments I have

Vik,

Has there been any discussion of timeframe?

dallen341- Timeframe-wise, I believe Robbie will be starting on the 5+ Northern Cali. rigs toward the end of October, and he needs to head back by the 3rd week of December, so he'd probably try to work us in within that window if he gets enough people in SoCal to make it worthwhile.

I won't pretend to speak for Robbie on this, but I would guess the start date would depend on:

1. Finish date on the rigs in NorCal

2. Whether we have enough people to make it worthwhile for Robbie to come down to SoCal

I'm still trying to gauge interest and pass along info to Robbie. I'll post a list of people who've expressed interest so far to confirm whether they are in, and we'll see what Robbie thinks from there.

SOCALFJ- email reply sent

Sounds like you guys are having better luck with him than I did. He blew me off. I even offered to bring my rig up to him in Boulder, when it was convenient for him. He never responded back. I really wanted him to do some work on my rig, as I had heard great things about his work and knowledge with the LC. I do know it was not a good time initially for him, but I was willing to wait.

summit21- I posted this thread in order to gauge interest in the SoCal area for Robbie's work. It seems that you had trouble getting hold of him in CO at some point. I'd suggest contacting Robbie again privately about that, as I've had no trouble contacting him in the past few weeks- email me for his current contact info if you'd like, but I'd appreciate it if we could keep this thread on-topic. Thanks.

OK, guys, one last post to see if there's any new interest before I post up a list of all members who've expressed interest and try to get a count of how many are ready to go through with it.

To those of you who've already expressed interest, please don't post until after the list goes up. Thanks!

Again, just to clarify: If you'd like more information, just click on my username and use the "Send email to alaskacruiser" link to contact me instead of the "Send private message to alaskacruiser" link. I need email contact so that I can reply with the attachments I have. Sorry if this was not clear.

If you were trying to contact him in early September he was kinda busy wondering if his house was burning down in the forest fire west of Boulder.

His house survived, he lost his out buildings and all of his immediate neighbors.

(EDIT: UPDATED W/ REPLIES 11/7/10)

Hello Everyone,

Time to wrap this up and see what Robbie thinks about coming down to SoCal!

Robbie has contacted me and indicated that, if he comes to SoCal, it will be for 2 weeks after Thanksgiving weekend, so let's say approximately 11/29/10 - 12/17/10. (EDIT: DATES UPDATED)

The following members have expressed potential interest in having work done by Robbie if/when he visits the SoCal area:

1. dallen341 (Don)- NO (schedule); (was: HG; No hosting)
2. NLXTACY (Joey)- NO (schedule); (was: HG with Cometic and ARP bolts, S/C install; Possible hosting)
3. Fireguy (Scot)
4. mattafact (Matt)- NO
5. KimoSabe (Anmer)- NO (schedule)
6. CappyKD (Kirk)
7. AdventureBuddies (Markus)- NO (schedule)
8. Brentbba (Brent)- NO
9. fzjconvert (David)- MAYBE; RnP, Rear main or arch, Rear heater rubber hoses while trans is out, General once over & maybe a couple of other things I need to email Robbie for quote; No Hosting
10. adalnay (Arvin)
11. SoCal80 (Steve)- YES; Regear (Still waiting for gears to come in from back order), PHH & Cooling System looked over; No hosting
12. 1FZj80 (Mark)- YES; Need transfer case seals replaced PHH, No hosting (in SD)
13. chrisc16 (Chris)
14. fjc8871 (Bruno)
15. mobi-arc (Scott)

Now here's what we need to get things going:

Each user listed above (and any new users interested) please post in this thread (please do not PM me- you can email me if you have to) and indicate:

1. Interest and work to be done:
a) Interested / Not interested (If you're not interested, please respond to confirm you're not interested)
b)If interested, provide a quick summary of work to be done (e.g., HG PM, Axle Regear, etc.)
(I will try to edit this post and update the list periodically)

2. Hosting Robbie and providing Workspace:
Please indicate whether you can host Robbie (preferably in a house) and/or provide him with a workspace (preferably a garage or driveway) for a few rigs (he can schedule the rigs so that there are a limited number there at one time). As I mentioned earlier, I live in a small apartment with no workspace, so I'm trying to find someone who can host Robbie, preferably in a house with a guest room, and provide him with a driveway/garage to work out of. This is pretty important, as emphasized below.

IMPORTANT:
- If we do not have a host for Robbie, then all interested parties will likely have to pony up for putting him up somewhere while he's here.

- If we do not have a workspace for Robbie, then we will need to figure that one out (any suggestions?)
