Can i plug the intake filter (3 nipple filter) or do i need these vacuum hoses?

From my searching, this piece keeps crud from gettign into the intake but what about going from the intake? I'm not worried about emissions on this cruiser.

Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks

My head is spinning

After multiple readings of the desmog threads:frown:, I notice that the piece I'm referring to (gas filter) has 2 of the nipples plugged while the third is connected to the VCV. Anybody have a picture of this so i know exactly where this vacuum hose goes to?

What's the reprecussions if the third nipple is plugged and not routed to VCV?

The vcv is used to allow the distributor cap to vent fumes, preventing combustible mixture build up inside the distributor cap. I don't know how necessary it is. Lots of engines run just fine without vented distributor caps. I don't know if there is something special or different about the land cruiser distributor to require a vent.

The vcv is shown as position 23275 in this schematic. It's near the top middle of the page. The VCV clips on the under side of the air cleaner above the distributor. The hose that comes out the top that isn't connected to anything in the schematic, gets connected to a port on the top of the air cleaner.

Thanks for the run down mbb. All in all, I'm trying to figure out if plugging the gas filter(all three nips) will crap up my distributor, since it's not being vented...i have no idea.
