and not saying that your agent is shady or anything

Lol. No doubt dude is shady. After what State Farm tried to do to me on my house, and what little help my guy was with that mess, I have little faith they will do the right thing if something happens to the 60 series.

I luckily so far don't have the $20,000 plus investment in my truck some folks here have in theirs (nevermind the Beno order I just placed on cooling system parts), but its enough that I would most likely lose a good bit if something ever happens to it. No different than any other high mileage car I guess. Like most folks here I have big plans for it so my situation will eventually move into real worry status if I ever invest the kind of money I want to. The way the values on these things seem to be going, I cannot figure out if I should use it as a daily driver or take it straight to a Bonhams auction.

Insurance is my profession. Each state is different.

The best way to insure my 77’ FJ40 was with American Modern Insurance Group which is owned by Munich RE. I have my vehicle insured for $30k in “agreed amount”. This is key... you should demand an “agreed amount” policy so that if anything happens, you will receive the agreed upon amount that your vehicle is worth. A specialty carrier like AMIG also will cover a sub limit amount of spare parts... this is rare for a standard auto carrier.

I pay $300 something per year for a 5k mile per year rating.

Contact your local INDEPENEDENT agent and ask them to quote your rig with American Modern. Independent Agent means they can offer you many different carriers... not just State Farm which is considered a “captive” agent as they can only sell you a State Farm policy.

If you don’t get what you need locally, just hit me up and I’ll set you in the right direction.

Hi, Who's best if it's a daily driver, 5,000 miles won't go very far. Thanks, Mike

I think a lot varies by state. I have statefarm. It's insured the same as all my cars (liability, comp, and collision). They base the value, should it be totaled on black book or NADA value (can't remember at the moment). The max value, which we both feel I could get for my rig is about $27k. It would not cover completely rebuilding mine, but would do a lot for my pocketbook.

So who is your insurance with LCnAZ? I just asked powerthief for some advice. I have tried three different insurance companies in GA now and no one can help. American Modern is my next step. But thanks for the heads up on the reviews.

I am running into a chicken and egg problem. I cannot get insurance because the car is not registered in the US. I guess the VIN is still on file in Spain where I got the truck. Problem is, I cannot register the truck without insurance!

I did the DOT forms and all other required forms, but I never heard of moving the VIN

OK could have easily changed. Before I purchased my cruiser there was a different vehicle that I was looking at importing that a VIN could not be had. Thus I was told by someone at DMV, If the VIN doesn't get moved then no go. Whether that means the vehicle actually getting a US based VIN or whatnot I am not sure. After that I did not attempt to import something.

I had to get a police officer to come to my house and verify that the truck was not stolen. He filled out a form that included the VIN and told me to take it to the tag office to complete registration. But like I said, so far (and I will find out more tomorrow) I will not be able to register the truck without insurance. I called the DMV today and the lady laughed at me. She had no idea what I should do. I am dead serious.

Do they actually ask for an insurance card, or a policy number, company and agent. Just write it in! I could put my lotto numbers on the form, and it would sail right through

Auto Owners agreed upon value for me, easy to deal with just required pictures of the truck.
