Restored the instrument cluster for my ‘79 FJ40. I used a vinyl label kit from Gauge Marks. The kit is nice quality and easy to install.

Looks great! I just dredged through this myself recently. I was worried about a few things.

1. The pewter paint from CC wasn’t pewter at all but more of a dark gray metallic.
2. The vinyl kit used independently, leaves some original off-white or muted colors in stark contrast with the super white vinyl, as the kit is incredibly well designed yet way too white.
3. The CC pewter would then look off compared to the ash tray and glove box, so to have it all match you’d have to paint all three at the same time.

To address this, I used cool cruisers two part pewter, found as perfect of a plate I could find (oil/temp/amp/fuel) that had great letters and restored all three at the same time.

A hassle! Great job, this 79 turned out great.

Looks excellent, thanks for posting this up👍

For a neophyte looking at this, would you mind telling how many hours you have into the project?
