Hi everyone,
I know there's a lot of info about this but I couldn't find anything that covered my question. I'm sure it's been asked but I can't find it in the hundreds of search results.
I'm thinking of putting a new android style Teyes head unit in my 03 LX470 with ML sound system. Since it's a new head unit could I remove all the old speakers and replace with new ones? I'm also thinking of bypassing the factory amp too.
Thoughts are, get rid of all old stereo stuff. Just go straight from head unit to normal speakers and still use the AC/Heat controls from the Teyes unit.

Yes this would work, though you would lose the subwoofer (Teyes is only 4-channel amp). The built-in amp in the Teyes isn't the strongest; I guess you could try it and if you don't like the sound quality add an aftermarket amp which would sound better and open up the opportunity for proper subwoofer.

Yes that works. Once you remove the ML amp, the tape deck will no longer work, nor will the volume knob FYI.

Here's mine: LX470 Mark Levinson full replacement - Alpine Optim8, german speakers, 2 way active front stage - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/lx470-mark-levinson-full-replacement-alpine-optim8-german-speakers-2-way-active-front-stage.1348111/

Not sure Teyes has a built-in amp :)

This helps a lot! I'm good with adding an aftermarket amp down the road if I need to but for right now I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible. I just need working speakers and a working head unit. Backup camera would be nice too.
My current factory nav unit is going dim and all the speakers are gone. It doesn't seem worth it to try to add a grom to a dying unit and I also dont feel like spending a day rebuilding the foam surrounds on 22 year old speakers. I think it's to the point where it needs a fresh build/start. Thanks again everyone!
