Installing my OME caster kit

I printed out the directions that I found in the tech pages here in IH8MUD. They are sort of difficult for me to understand. (My kit didn't come with any instructions.) Can anyone elaborate for me? I'm at my work, so I have a lift and a press and air tools, but I just need it to be a little more clear. I had a template for the last time I did it, but I don;t have it this time. Thanks!

Offroadkid - I found things a little confusing as well. Specifically which aspect are you wondering about?

I'll try to recap what I did:

edit #2 - hold the phone, I'm not sure if I have the twist correct below. You should double check to make sure I have up vs. down correct below. I can't remember for sure.

When on the flat ground, with the new suspension on, mark the bottom of the front bushing (mark on the arms). Maybe use a T-square to get the very bottom of the arm.

We built a jig to get the distance between the old bushing (center to center) by welding a plate of steel (jig) and the old bolts (I replaced my bolts through the bushings). If you are not using a jig then do one arm at a time (keeping the old arm as a template for the spacing between the bushings).

Press out the old bushings (on one arm). Line up the new bushing on the front marked hole in the arm and make sure the offset hole is lined up with the mark you made up in step #1. The offset hole should be on the downside? (please verify this is correct, could be the other way around) of the arm next to the mark. I think there is a mark on the new OME bushing. Imagine that you are basically twisting the axle back down?? at the rear..

The rear OME bushing goes exactly other way (offset is to the bottom?). Using the jig or the other arm as a guide, make sure the spacing is correct for the bolts (again center to center). When the distance is correct between the holes, you'll also notice that the offset between front and back is opposite to one another.

Hope that helps, if you need clarification on something else.

Thanks guys! Yeah, I was having trouble with marking the vertical lines, then measuring the distance between the holes. I guess a T-square would be a good tool. So basically I just have to get the front bushing in place, then make sure the back one is in the right place so the bolt will fit through?

That's basically it. If you've got it right you'll notice that the offset on the rear is exactly opposite of the the front. While I wa eating lunch I realized that above I do have things backwards (i think). I'll edit it up.

I wouldn't use the T-square if it's too difficult. It's not that critical. A good eyeball of the lowest point is probably good enough.

Buying from Christo is a good idea for the advice and the little SST to push the bushings with.

It helps to use a come-along to align the axle to the bushings.
