I have a 1996 LC on which I'm installing a hitch (frame-on), the Curt class III. I don't tow a lot, but I will likely need the ability for furniture and construction debris from a home remodel.

Does anyone:
(1) recommend a different brand?
(2) know if trailer wiring was standard? The previous and only owner did not modify the vehicle at all, so if it wasn't standard then it's not there on my Cruiser.
(3) if it's not standard, recommend a method for wiring for a trailer?

Thank you in advance.

I don't know about standard but I found all the wires tucked way up on the back and wrapped almost like it was factory. Its just a basic 4pin I found. The bolt size is I think a 10mx1.75, but it's been a while so maybe someone could verify. I had to run a tap through the nuts on the frame to clear the 18yrs of debris. The hitch I bought used but it bolted right up. Didn't really have to do much.

The connectors for the trailer wiring harness are stock but the harness itself (with converter) is not. Follow the link below and either the Hopkins or the Tekonsha harness will work. If you dig deep enough on the etrailer site the installation instructions are there. As long as the hitch was made for a 80 series LC, the Curt hitch should be just fine.

If you already have a receiver attached, you can purchase the Toyota OEM trailer wiring harness from your parts dealer. This is a plug in solution.Part Number 00526-60961

Thanks to both of you. I am ordering the hitch today and wanted to confirm the other items I'd need.
