Well the short story...
I have just bought my '88 FJ62 from a friend who has left the country. I new it needed alot of work and TLC but generally the car was in good condition, not suprising it being a landcruiser. But the body needed some repairs, paint peeling from a bad panel beating, body filler job.
The motor was running on 4 cyl, so I new there was some work in there, but it was one heck of a deal. So Ive just got it 5 days ago and have now started the work.
1. First a compression test sure enough #2 and #4 no pressure.
2. off with its head and this is what I find.......

continued

There was so much baked oil inside, I had to wonder if and when last this car had been serviced.
Well its all done now, new valves gaskets etc. Putting it back tomorrow. will run it for a week or so then change the oil again and flush engine again. Hopefully that puts it all right. Checked the oil pickup and the oil pump all in perfect working order. Only in a cruiser....!I just can't believe how tough these things (cruisers) are. Anything else would probably be parked on the side of the road somewhere.:)

I am also replacing all seals on gearbox and have replaced clutch, pressure plate and release bearing, (which was about to seize.)
Sorry no pics of that undertaking....
well thats the first big job underway hope to tackle the body soon as possible.!

:cool:Great job man .

Thats a common site on the head of a 3fe, caused I suppose from higher heat......glad ya got it cleaned up and back together.

Also, if you do find this. There is a good chance that is just localized to the valves and not found else where. It really doesnt hurt anything as well.

So I assume its a 60 not a 62?

read first paragraph, wait fawk your right yea i believe he did get it confused. Unless he had the conversion lol

I would assume it has been converted to stick, as he said '88 FJ62. Otherwise he confused year and model.

Nope I haven't got it wrong, it is an '88 FJ62 5 speed manual transmission, assembled in South Africa. There aren't many around..:)

Man thats gross! looks like it hasn't had the oil changed since '89
