I understand the sides of the ARB's have been known to bend up every now and then under certain conditions. My steel dude and I were studying the structure of the bumper and noted the weakest part of it is behind the bar, where you can see ARB welded the side together. So, I came up with these brackets. 3/8" of pure metal chunk.

I mounted them on the INSIDE of the bumper with some allen bolts, and of course painted the bolts (not shown).

This hopefully will prevent the side flaps from flipping up.

What say you?

Very nice.

Johnny, I think you're truck is too clean! :D

VERY NICE, as usual.;)

Great function and thoughtful engineering, Like everything else you've done.

I often check your site for mod ideas. Keep it up and thanks.

Great idea, where were you 2 years ago with this? :flipoff2:

how much more damage could your wife have inflicted on the other car if that was reinfoced.

Mr. Yoats,

You've got a great idea here, but I have been wondering if having the plates would prevent bending, or move the bend point further forward toward the corner of the ARB? What if you extended the front tab of the plate so that it bends around the front corner of the ARB, similar to what you have done to the top of the plate. This would give a triangulation to the plate making it exponetially stronger. And the cost to manufacture should not go up too much.

Great idea, though. I am interested.

I was picturing the same "physics."

I also think that the fasteners are key. Are the fasteners strong enough to handle the force and the sheer?

Agree 100% with Trinny. The side plate itself will not bend with what you have, but it will simply bend at the corner as always. Reinforce the corner also and you've got something. Running your piece around the corner and adding a triangulating cross brace would dramatically improve the bending, which is not currently improved.

me like

I like it. I'd be in for a set. Even more so if you take the advice of making it stronger.

Thanks for the input folks. I really didn't mean to post them here as a "vendor" thing, actually I wasn't sure if people would even care for them. IF the steel dude wants to make more and they are decently priced, I certainly will post em up in the vendor section. More so I wished all of your valuable opinions.

Trinny, yes, I agree with you. When I was thinking and coming up with the design, I was operating under the theory that the sides actually move UP into the fender when coming down on a rock, or being hi-lift jacked up. Maybe I am wrong, I assumed that a few folks had issues with them bending upwards and causing fender damage. I'd like to hear from people that have had trail experiences in damaging them. (Not Mercedes Benz magnetic accidents Cory! :flipoff2: :grinpimp: , j.k bro). Is there more of an issue bending IN, or UP into the fender?

I'm no engineer but I figured the top flat plain prevented the sides from folding inwards. ??? (except in Cory's case, where it is clear the Benz folded in the bottom.

More input! (where are our engineers!) ;p

Well, screw off then. :flipoff2:

In my case with the Benz, the side wing bottom folded in and the whole wing twisted up, but did not bend inwards. So I think you're logic in the way the bar would bend is sound. I'm sure it would bend in that plane, but it would take a hard hit to buckle and crease that top plate.

gimme a price and I might put myself on the list too!!! Also come up with a great name for them too....so I can put it in my sig when/if I get a set

Again, I wish this to be a input thread, not a vendor thing. If and when, I certainly will post in the vendor area. Danke.

Will a BMW side impact work? Maybe a Audi TT? I'll have my wife ram the sides tonight and post the results. :D
