well I drove to Kelowna yesterday and now when I start the 70 it seems like it has air in the fuel lines. I pump up the primer pump until it is tight then the truck runs great, if I don't pump it I can not get any rpm's over 2000, it just starts to stall out.

I have primed the system, twice. now I am a little confused.

thanks
Ryan

I would be interested in an answer to this as well, maybe Wayne could give his opinion?
Still air in the lines somewhere?
thanks
Jan

my guess is air in the line...
but it is only a guess.
Bruce or Greg could probably be better at guessing this one...
cheers

check the line that feeds your pump all the way back to the fuel tank...you will find a loose clamp or rusted line somewhere which is drawing air in.

This would be my guess

i agree.. it might not leak out.. jsut suck air in.. i know this because i have had the exact problem before.. its "losing its prime" and is not able to regain it, i found that by working backwards towards the tank the leak it most easily found.. also i have found leaks before by pressurizing the fuel system with a few pounds of air, other than that it may be the low pressure pumps' seals. betting about 90% likely that its an air leak tho

well I have been able to keep it running today, but I have not turned it off at all. I pumped it up and cracked the bleeder valve and she let out alot of air, so I pumped until no more air came out, and I closed the valve and she started right up. I then turned the idle up to 1100 RPM to keep it running good. I amm going to check the lines to the tank later.

thanks

Check the scavenger line. Likely leaking behind the EDIC, letting air in. Trouble shoot by plugging the return at the injector pump and letting the scavenger line pour into a bottle.

could you please elaborate a bit?
what does it mean if it is leaking? is there a valve gone bad? and what is the fix?

thank you,
Jan

The scavenger line just returns the surplus fuel to the tank or injector pump depending on the setup. If it's leaking, replace the leaky part. It's that simple.

thanks Bruce, I will check that tomorrow morning.

As mentioned: Sounds like you are sucking air in somewhere.

Do what Bruce mentions, and if that does not find it then get some clear tubing and put in between the primer pump inlet, and the hardline coming from the fuel tank. If this shows air, then start looking at the line all the way to the tank, including the pickup tube that comes out the tank.

Just thought abaout another possibility. Since most people never drain their water seperators, sometime this time of year the water freezes and cracks the plastic housing. People generally notice the puddle of fuel first but if the crack is near the top, you could draw air in there without too much leaking.

I had a pinched fuel line once, and it drove me crazy trying to find it.

Once it was fixed, it still took a long time to bleed all of the air out of the system. I would say 3-4 times (on separate days) priming and cracking the valve to get it ALL out. If not by then, then you are definitely still sucking air.

FYI, my pinched line was one of the hard lines underneath running back to the tank.

Craig.

The problem has not reocurred since tuesday, the truck starts and run great ?
I have bled it about 3-4 times and now it works
thanks for the help guys
