I'm replacing my front and rear AHC shocks with new ones and I note that the FSM advises replacing the O-rings and back up rings when doing so:

If a description of how to do this exists on the forum (or elsewhere) I haven't been able to find it. Does anyone have instructions and/or experience with this? I've had the AHC hose off the top of the old shocks and don't see any rings on the top of the shock. I'm wondering if the rings are up inside that AHC hose connection. Is that correct, or do they just slip over the top the tube on the AHC shock? Strange that I don't see the old ones.

I'm also replacing my globes (they've gone bad) and I was lucky enough to come upon the image below (plus old postings from uHu and PADDO) that indicates that they also have back up rings and O-rings. The globes I had on previously did not have any rings on them at all - so it appears that the good old "repair" shop just skipped them entirely. Installing these, however, looks pretty straightforward...

Cheers

Replacing AHC shock is waste of money and time. Unless they leak so bad they drip.

Inside. Note the orientation. Look close and you'll see o-ring on top and then split seal on bottom.

Best practice is to flush new shocks before installing. Start at post #191

I have replaced globes recently on my 2002 LX, and the rings/springs lay around unused. I purchased new globes from Japan on the bay, and they came with everything necessary already installed.

Thanks 2001LC. Great pics in your posting. What kind of tool is used to get the old O-rings and back up rings out and the new ones into the height control accumulator assembly? The O-rings themselves seem quite soft and bendable, but the back up rings seem to be harder and potentially more breakable (I even received a "new" one in broken condition).

You're right apdxyk. I also purchased my new globes from Japan and they came with the rings already installed. Appreciate all the info.

I used a pick & prob to get out and in. None of the OEM I used broke.
