I wanted the ability to easily remove to repair/repaint if necessary. I don't actually see myself ever having to remove them though.
I was able to finally get them installed yesterday though. Not perfect, but they'll serve their primary purpose of wife/kid step and roof access. Did the jump and jack test to great success.

Don't mind all the grass on the truck, the lawn guys tend to blast all the cars with clippings...

Jack wasn't quite tall enough, even with the wood block, to lift the tires, but the full weight of the truck was on it, didn't bend. Good to go!

@FLWookie Not to hijack, but where did you get those American Flag decals that are on your rear windows? Those are pretty slick. Im sure others are curious as well.

Those are from Overlook Graphics. I can't remember the size I bought to trim, maybe 22x36. They come in various sizes and paired left and right.

I like the xo. Great option!

Holding up great. No problems, go for it. It's a much better option price wise.....

Hey guys, question for those who built the sliders.
I started welding my trail gear kit but the rain ran me off. I only completed the driver side. Is the passenger side simmetric? Measuring was the most labor intensive part, so if I can avoid it that would be great.

LX is not symmetric as the AHC system is in the way. Definitely have to mock them up on each side.

The pics look like the sliders are resting on the pinch weld. Is that how sliders are mounted?

Getting closer. After 2 years of having the sliders in the garage I finally decided to get them in.
Not the prettiest welds but they wi hod. I hope...

I believe it is symmetric for 99 LC.

I'm going to bring this one back from the dead. What is the frame thickness on the 100 series? I'm looking at some of these DIY kits, but would need to now where to set my machine. Are you using 1/4" scab plates to weld to the frame?

thebdg,
I don't know the frame thickness but i have the exact Trail Gear kit i used on my LX, including mounting kit, in my garage getting ready to install on my son's 4-runner. I measured the mounting plates and the are 3/16's.

go for it

Frame wall thickness is 3 mm (because not ‘Merica), or approx 1/8”. I agree with @TLC Dan - 3/16” scab plates are sufficient.
