In the market for a welder and Need HELP!!

I'm looking for a good welder to start fabricating a bumper, winch mount, sliders, garden-art for the grandmother, and whatever else I come up with to make. Does anyone have any good suggestions of a good unit to buy? I've only welded at work, so a home unit is a new story and I've never had to shop for one, so finding what I need in a good quality welder at an affordable price (that's NOT 3-phase) is a bit overwhelming. I'm looking for something that's capable of penetrating over 1/4" or up to 1/2" that I can use at home. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Miller 175 and above. Just make sure you get one that is 220v.

look in the paper for industrial auctions, they got the best prices. i have a lead on a lincoln 200 for about 650 im thinkin about. I dont think youll find too much diff. b/w similarly spec'd miller vs lincoln vs hobart.
