Fuel pump with a 350TBI conversion?
I have been doing alot of reading on this, here and on the PBB....just wondering what other people are running and what works for them?

I do like the idea of using the GM pump in the LC tank since I've pulled mine out to fix a leak. Anyone have a pic of this setup?

i'd like to here more on this as welll... best of luck to your reponse.

my plan was just to use the LC tank and the pump that i pull of the donor SBC suburban.

In-tank pumps are neat, and there was a radiator shop here local a few years back that would cut up the old tank and modify things to work in the other vehicle tank...he was a street rod guy to the bone, and understood modding things, but on the Jeeps and other things that I have been involved with doing EFI engine swaps on, simply mounting a pump on the frame close to the tank has seemed to work out best.

Good luck!

my fuel pump died in my 62 and that was a huge pain. who wants to be stuck ontop of a trail and have no way to fix something as simple as a fuel pump?

i would stick with outside the tank. if it dies easy to fix. we carry a spare with a regulator on it and it has saved a few peoples butts. if someones pump died you just unhook the old one and hook the old spare up. always good to plan ahead. like i always say a simple rig= good wheeling. make things hard to get too, or change=:crybaby:

tbi only needs about 12psi btw. I have been running an external pump, outside the tank for almost 10 years. No need to get fancy. The pumps are small and not a big deal to locate. Mine is mounted to the passenger side frame rail, tucked up high next to the t-case. I used to run it strapped to the cross member, but moved it. Point is- anywhere you can find room for it in a spot lower than the tank, youre fine. Could probably even put it in the rig, next to the tank- but the noise might get to you. Mine is a Walbro (sp?) unit. Napa also sells pumps I hear work well that are cheaper.

good luck-
Dustin

In the Chicks Jeep we are using a factory intank pump, works great the pumps run cooler and are less prone to failure, and a lot quieter. the extenal ones are very loud and annoying. It wasn't that tuff to mod the sending unit to make this work. the tuffest part is getting all that stuff in the factory hole.

I am planning to run mine as an external pusher pump mounted at the frame somewhere. I like the internals for reliability but they're a BIATCh to change in an emergency. I'll keep a spare in the truck just in case.

At First i Bought a Master E8153 http://www.partsamerica.com/Product...trictioncode=2&storecount=0&applieddiscount=0

it ran (Like Crap) put out 13 psi or so, when you gave it gas the Pressure went down near 0.. Others on this board run one and have for years without issues.. not me

Switched to a Volvo used pump that ran great Till it left me stranded on the side of the road..

Switched it out for a second Volvo pump that runs ok, but is not putting out 15..

I dont know what i want to do next.. Im thinking a Ford E2000 http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?mfrcode=MST&mfrpartnumber=E2000

sorry my Engine is a TBI 350.. The E2000 is the common one for TPI, MultiPort, Vortech, ECT.. i think it puts out 45 psi or so, maybe too much for the stock regulator to handle.. Anyone elce have a source for a good pump thats Cheep and puts out more than 15 psi..

Somone said 12 is needed, but most i talk to are saying atleast 15 psi

E2000 can put out in excess of 65 psi!!! It is good to use on Vortec conversions.
The guys at Summit Racing (one click gets it quick) can recommend what you need for a TBI.

I've been using a external holley projection fuel pump. It is very noisy with a high pitch whine, but it has been fine for over 4 years. I still carry a spare just in case.

I have seen folks put a external pump on as backup, they will draw fuel through the in tank pump. I however have never seen this done on the higher pressure motors like the TPI and Vortecs but should work on the TBI models.

The best, final solution for when money is no object:

http://racepumps.com/

Quiet, reliable, and it won't stay on after the engine stalls with the key on. Also, using a mech pump for EFI opens up aux tank options since in-tank fuel pump mounting/switching or external pump-to-tank proximity are no longer concerns. One RacePump is probably less cost than two internal pumps. Especially if tank mounting mods are also required.

If only they had a 2F app.

any pump from a fuel injected german car from the mid 80's and up with bosch fuel injection will work . I've had a volkswagen rabbit pump in mine for a couple of years works great. easy to find replacement if it ever blows.
