In search of 80 to purchase - Help me fine one!

Hi everyone,

I was directed to this board after posting in the chitchat section.

I'm trying to find an 80 to purchase, preferrably a 95-97, or even an LX450.

I've only found 1 in my area so far, but its a 91 w/o lockers, and I've been hoping to find newer with lockers if possible.

Has anyone seen any 80's for sale in their area? I'd be interested in hearing about any.

Ebay doesn't have anything close, and I'm not up for the expensive shipping or cross country trip to get one. I'd also like to be able to check the car out before purchase - so thats not gonna work either.

AutoTrader and Cars.com don't have anything either. I've found 1 96 in Tucson, but no mileage or price listed so I sent an email.

I figure an entire's clubs eyes work better for a search than just my own. I'm up in Cottonwood, AZ - next to Sedona.

No towing setup, which Im looking for. Is that something that is easy to bolt up if I bought one without the towing kit?

The mileage seems high at 185k? Is that anything to worry about on the 91-92 motor?

No front bumper or running boards, so I assume it had the aftermarket pieces which were sold seperately at sometime. I'd be adding sliders and an ARB, so thats not too much concern. He emphasised that its best offer, so Im sure I could talk him down a ways. I might go look at that one tomorrow.

If you want to tow get a '93 or newer, much more powerful motor. Patience is needed when buying Land Cruisers not a lot of them out there, if you look long enough you will find the right one. Brother Rob bought one in Texas, flew there and drove it back. I called on every one for sale in AZ and drove all over the state looking at a bunch of them, before finding mine, it took four months.

I found my 97 in California - also keep an eye on craigslist.com - in the cities without rust

You can also post for wanted items in many forums - ask everyone you know to look

I second everything said.. Took me 6 weeks to find my 1996 and it was in Denver.. Took me 8 weeks to find my 1995 and it was in Wisconsin.. If you want one in AZ I would guess if milage and lockers are an issue then it's going to take you 2-6 months...

Yes, I imagine since AZ has the non-rusted used cars, it might be a little harder to find what Im looking for.

The lockers and low mileage are not an absolute requirement, just would be nice.

I'd never be towing anything excessive, just an ATV or 2 or a small utility trailer, but I'd still like to find a 95+ if possible for the newer interior.

This will also be somewhat of a daily driver, so I'd hate to end up with a 185k mile rig to find out that 190k is where it dies...

Looking to spend closer to $10k, less is always better.

I have $7k set aside which can either go partially or completely towards the rig or down payment.

Anything over $12k seems high on these 80s, and some private sellers are either upside down on their loans, or think they have a gold mine.

Not for a low miles 96 or 97...14-15 is about right. To get down to that level you are talking older or well over a 100k from what I have seen. I looked for some time to find mine and still paid 17. I guess it's just whatever you want.

Just an FYi,
That 91 with 33's was up for sale back in June when I was looking for a rig... I was surprised to see it was still listed in that link. I never looked at that one in person, so I couldn't tell you it's condition.

Also, I found mine after a week (GOT LUCKY!) of looking, its a 94 without lockers, but in awesome condition with CLOTH interior for less than $8k...

That's WAY OFF BASE!!! I did A LOT of research for both of mine and there's no way on Gods green planet any 96-97 is worth that unless it's got 30k on it... The 95 I just bought with lockers and under 200k was $5,000 and my 96, mint with 100k and lockers was $10,000 and I thought I over paid..

Money is hard to come by right now.. I had a locked 96 in Phoenix I was going to buy with 150k he wanted $7,000 even and I felt it was too much so I passed..

Look in CO, good deals and I can get it shipped to you for about $350...

So far, its still the 91 w/ 33"s, as sort of a last resort...

There's 3 LX450s listed at a place called Ideal Cars in Chandler - Green, Silver, Gold. I think they're each above $10k, and I havent been able to call to see if they're still available, but I'll try calling tomorrow.
