Hey guys, I have Sirius satellite radio. I also have a full flat roof rack. Sometimes i loose coverage and its annoying, anyone have any tricks?

Ryan

Funny you mention that as my antenna was already mounted/stuck on the left rear of my roof. Pretty sure it's magnetic though.

I wonder if you could mock up a small "L" platform or adapter to get that antenna out from under the rack.
With all the tool mounts that move items off to the sides a small XM tab would be the cats meow.

I have no need to move mine yet but I wonder why the rack companies haven't come out with some yet.

Is your antenna magnetic based?

I have had to replace my Sirius/XM antenna twice over the the past 12 years. I also moved the mount location from the roof to my hood, right in front to the windshield, which has been working great for me for many years now.

@B-RAD I see you've moved your antenna, so you must have a handle on how Sat radio is hard-wired. I could use your help!

Can you tell me how/where wiring is run, where tapped in, what components (antenna, receiver, amp, ect..) and where they are?.
(Not how you ran antenna wire to front, but how it was done when at rear).

I also had mine on the roof. Would cut out a lot and lose total signal when the tent was on.

I ran mine through the driver side firewall rubber boot, and stuck it to the back of the driver side hood.

The key to get it through the firewall is to put a straight coat hanger all the way through the boot to where you can see it under the hood and under the dash. Then tape the plug side of the antenna to the coat hanger under the hood. Put a few drops of 3 in 1 oil on the plug, then pull the whole thing through the boot from the inside.

Using the OEM antenna still or did you buy a replacement?

Actually I'm just trying to determine what I have and how it's wired. I saw this thread that dealt with moving antenna. So woke, thought I would see who may know how mine is wired and if factory or aftermarket?

PO of Snowy (06LC) report a parasitic draw which (he said) it had something to do with SAT radio. He said some shop messed it up. They stopped the draw, but knock out DVD rear player in doing so. I 'm trying to understand how these SAT radios are wired, both aftermarket & factory installed.

It may be it a short in DVD player or may be a short caused by SAT installer, IDK. I know DVD play is unplugged and antenna (magnet) is above rear hatch. I'd rather not just start pulling interior panels to trace antenna wire and pull dash apart until I have a good handle on this stuff! I did pull rear PS qt interior panel and saw DVD is unplugged but no unusual wire in area. Plugging in DVD and it doesn't shut down when key off.

You can run your antenna wire through the firewall grommet and simply have your mag mount antenna on the hood. I centered mine near the windshield. I removed my factory radio after the CD changer crapped out, so my sirius radio is a single DIN install, and I have my HAM faceplate in the 2nd DIN slot. Hope this helps you out!

I just purchased a Sirius so I have been studying them a bit. They make several styles. VAIS makes a kit that shows to be plug and play for an 06 LC. You would plug it in the rear of the factory head unit

I can't say for sure this is what they had but these are the options that are out there.

Interesting.

I would think all that hardware would be under center console, which I've nothing in that area. Console does show signs of being opened up before, someone may have removed all the stuff.

I did track the antenna wire going rear to front on PS along headliner under plastic molding. It then crossed over to lower center dash below head unit. I'll need to pull molding around head unit area to see if connected to anything or just where it's lying. I suppose something could be unplugged or clip on back of head unit which causes DVD to stay on. But I'm now leaning toward a short in DVD system. PO just may not have under stood what shop was telling him, or I didn't understand him.

I pulled and clipped wire up to this point and left in place for now.

There are two harnesses on the back of my factory radio. One goes to the DVD changer from the head unit and the other goes to the amp and is the power supply for the head unit. The Blue wire with yellow stripe labeled L-Y and the Gray wire Labeled GR are ran back to 12V on my unit. If these wires were disconnected in the dash due to the amp draw the DVD would not work.

The DVD LED screen and DVD player work, so they have power. It just the DVD player has power even with key OFF. Also I'm having trouble keeping DVD movie running more than a minute or two.

LCD screen comes on when I swing down, seems to be off when up. Kind like is refrigerate light really off when door closed..LOL But DVD player is on all the time, this is for sure.

In my 06 LX I only have an option to use XM and not Sirius since it was made before the merger. Does anyone have issue w/ XM dropping for long period's of time due to cell towers, especially T-Mobile? I can sometimes be driving by cell towers and loose my radio feed. Is there any way to fix this issue?
