Impact wrench or impact driver? (1 Viewer)

Any suggestions on an impact tool that will take off 100 ftlb lug nuts as well as smaller nuts and bolts but not tooooo powerful. All in one. ??

Is 1/4” impact driver big enough (Hart from Walmart is not) or is a 3/8” wrench required but not too big for above combination needs ?

3/8 stubby m12 from Milwaukee is what I use.

my 1/4 impact driver removes typical wheel lugs but it's probably close to its limit.

aren't there impact wrenches with power adjustment?

The two tools are meant for different things; while one might be substituted for the other in a pinch, it would not be ideal by any means. An impact driver that you strike with a hammer is meant for getting off smaller fasteners like machine screws and smaller bolts. What you want for lug nuts is an impact gun, air or electric. You will use an impact gun 100x more often than an impact driver.

^^ my impact driver is an old Ridgid 18V. Ive removed wheel lugs with it but I suspect the 1/4 to 1/2 adapter is seriously stressed when doing that. Seems too flimsy. That is indeed not an optimal solution. just me being lazy.

I used to use a pneumatic 1/2” Matco impact gun in the shop.
I now added the Milwaukee M18 Fuel 1/2” impact with three presets for different torque values.

I use the 3/8” Fuel M12 impact for engine peripherals. Small and somewhat compact it packs a decent punch.
No hoses to get in the way sure is nice.

Like MR.1911 stated, every tool has an appropriate use.
Otherwise I would only have one or two Milwaukee cordless tools.
