Did I read right that after 2000, there isn't a factory locker option available on either LC/LX models?

I did a search and real Slee's newb guide, but I would like confirmation. Is it even possible to find and 03 or newer 100 series with factory rear locker, let alone no navigation.

99 was the last year of the factory rear locker. This was the main reason why I got a 99..

I thought I read that. What about non-navigation models for LC/LX...did they ever make any of those? That is a hard search to do on autotrader. There isn't checkbox saying "no I don't want navigation"

Man that sucks! Guess I'm stuck using the PA15-Toy to get hooked up to the stereo.

When I do finally get the green light to start actively looking for my next cruiser :bang:.... I am going to do my best to find an 03+. I feel the 5spd outweighs the nav and associated issues. I would have to say the nav would be an easier work around than a transmission swap ( 4 to 5spd ) . There are certain markets that have 03+ with out nav ( I think ). Just not ours. So it is possible. Just not cheap.

I have an 03 without nav. I got lucky and found it locally. Snatched it up quickly.

I picked an 01 for the atrac and no nav. I like having options. Also, i think you can put a auto locker/lunch box locker? in atrac equipped vehicle and still keep atrac. Which is what i want to do.

Hawaiian dealers are not part of the Toyota dealer network, and thus if you can find a TLC from HI they will often come without NAV. There were also several Southern states that weren't part of the network at that time, but don't know if they received any non_NAV builds.

Just do a axle swap like I did. 2001 64k miles with a 99 locked axle wasn't hard to do, duggy member here was selling one its pretty much bolt on.

Why the (apparent) dislike for the nav system?

The factory Navigation has stopped me on my tracks from purchasing several nice rigs. Navigation is a big no from me even when the rest of the rig is perfect. They are like 3k if they go bad too and they go bad along with your A/C controls.

the main issue for me with the Nav in the 03+ is that the climate control was built into it. This would keep you from upgrading the after market nav with something modern. in my 99 I took the stock radio out and upgraded to a modern Pioneer double din 7'' screen with all the modern, blue tooth, nav, DVD, MP3, back up camera and what not. If there was some way to update the software on those old navs, that would be huge! I also weighed the 5 speed trans in the options, but the older ones were in my price range, and the 03+ were not.

Ummm it's terrible?

It is definitely dated. Maybe it's because I've owned 3 vehicles with the Toyota/Lexus NAV system, but its user interface seems a whole lot more intuitive than either the factory GM unit in my Corvette or the aftermarket Kenwood/Garmin in my son's LC.

I've got over 10 years (each) in 3 different vehicles with Toyota/Lexus Nav systems, and (knock on wood) haven't lost a screen yet. I did have a Nav DVD player go out on a 4th gen 4runner, which caused a "No Disk" error. Not a cheap repair, but not a huge issue either.

I would have really preferred that Lexus/Toyota left the Nav system as a double DIN stereo (like the 4th gen 4runner) with separate HVAC controls, which would have left some options for aftermarket replacement ,in case of catastrophic failure, or just wanting to update the system with some more modern features.

I may be in the minority, but I think the Nav fear is a little overblown, and think I might be able to operate enough of the HVAC with the "temp", "auto" and "defrost" physical buttons for a while until I could get the MFD fixed. That being said, when we bought my son's LC, we limited our search to Pre 03 non nav vehicles because he had to have his modern electronics.

For me it wasnt a fear of the nav, though I can understand why some people may be scared by the cost of fixing a broken unit. On my mom's rx the nav unit went out and lexus quoted us about $3500 in parts. We sent the unit to an electronics repair company and they replaced the broken resistor as well as refurbished the unit for $200. So I'm sure the LC/LX nav can be fixed in a similar way.

The main reason I wanted non-nav was just so I could throw in any aftermarket HU. Im sure I could have made it work on a nav unit (others have), but it would have been a way bigger process than a non-nav unit.
