I'm pulling my hair out!! T-IV or Dexron ATF?

Dexron and T-IV are different designations. T-IV is a lower viscosity ATF than Dexron III.

Dumb Question but how many quarts do I need to purchase to be able to change the Auto Transmission on my 2000 LC. Thanks

I suppose you mean to change the fluid, not the tranny. That depends on how much you want to change. Drain and fill, 3 litres. Drop the pan, maybe 4. Change it all, flushing, 12 litres.

"20001LC - I use Mobil 1 for everything else so I would prefer to use it also for this I just want to make sure I buy the correct one and the best Mobil 1 offers. Do you use this specific item
Mobil 1 104361 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart"
^ I uses that for gear box's (Transfer case, Diff's).

This is what I use for transmission:
Request Rejected Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF is a multi-vehicle formula. 12qt IIRC, but I buy extra as I always seem to over flush. Any leftover I keep for power steering. I'm going to start flushing power steering with every oil change, along with lubing propeller shafts & spider joints (AKA drive shafts & u-joints).

I too use all Mobil One syn., keeps things simple and works well enough. It is very pricey, so best shop around for a deal.

Any issues with doing a drain and fill using Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF mixing with T-IV? I would do this every oil change for several changes. My tranny fluid is original, 2003 120k miles. I was going to use T-IV but the M1 looks like a great product.

uHu What do you recommend I do: Drain, Flush or change it all. I have 170,000 Miles last time fluids were all changed were at 130,000. Except for oil which is done often. Just trying to make sure this LC stays on the road with no problems for as many miles as possible. thanks!!

If it was flushed at 130 k, I would just drain-and-fill every 20 k miles or so. Then drop the pan again after a few rounds/years, to check magnets and change filter/mesh.
But here you'll get as many recommendations as there are LC owners....
Btw: Flush = change-it-all.

Personally I never like mixing fluid, especially if I don't no what has been previously used.

UHU THANK YOU for the help. I am just trying to play it safe on the things I can do before something goes wrong . Attention to detail and trying to do all I can to keep it running into the high milage area!! To be on the safe side and I am not 100% sure it was "flushed" at 130K, I will need to check my metal folder with the L.C.'s history. I might choose to "flush" it this time. It will be a very expensive purchase on Amazon.com and I am not sure how much the normal charge for the labor will cost for the mechanic. This month I believe I will "Flush" the entire auto transmission system and purchase the 12-14 quarts and also "flush" the power steering. Last of all new front and rear OEM brake pads. I think that will be enough up keep this month as I get into the higher milage area. Thanks to everyone with their very helpful knowledge which is much appreciated. After this I will have to read more of the forums to see what else should be on my list to change and work on as aI get near 200,000 miles. Thanks!

Here's my two cents....

I recently did a complete flush. I refilled with Valvoline Max Life Synthetic. 2000 LX470 with 120,xxx miles on the odometer when I did the flush.

I chose to do a complete flush because I saw some sediment when I dropped the pan, and I wanted to make sure the cooler was not obstructed at all. I tow with my LX.

I chose Max Life on the advice of a trusted, local tranny shop.

Does it smell weird? Seriously! I was nervous about putting it in...

Max-Life (Valvoline) ATF does smell different! It's different that normal, non synthetic, atf!
