Whats up guys Im new to the cruisers and would like to know what to look out for as far as problems and what not. I just bought a 1970 FJ45 its running a Holden 253 V8 oh just so its clear Holden is also known as GMH General Motors Holden its basicly an Aussie built Chevy. Its got the orig. 4 spd trans and trans-x cant tell you which ones maybe some one could shed some light on that for me. The front end is out of an 80 closed nuckle manual hubs I would like any info on Identifiying these parts. If anyones ever planning a trip to AUZ sydney area hit me up and we'll head out on some of the bush trails.

:beer:Cheers Mate

A 253...never heard of it, you sure it's not a 283. Very nice though, wish we could find 45's in the US for that price.

its a 253 im sure its an aussie GM motor the next size is 308 then 351 but its got different heads

yep its right hand drive but hey compared to what im used to in the states I even drive on the wrong side of the road

Nice 45

thanx guys glad you like it now what kind of problems should I look for

I would say wait till you have a problem then post a thread we will answer your questions.
Use the search you can look at old posts and get some idea of common problems.
You will find there is always something that could be fixed or starting to wearout but chances are she will never let you down I know I own 5 cruisers all insured and droven daily.
If it ain't broke don't fix it just enjoy it

Ok now remember It was made for AUZ. I quessing its the # on the firewall mainly because the only other build tag is on the fender and it says the same thing but also has the engine size and type bore and stroke and what not but th two sets of # on the forewall are as follow: FJ45P-B3 and FJ45-43524 if that doesent tell ya ill take pics and post them so you can see what I see

it is 39 years old so it may not be original but if its not then some one did one hell of a job respraying it they took more time then I ever have

the 253 and 308 came out in holden in the early seventies before that they had the 5litre chev and the 350 chev the 351 is a ford engine, the 253 wasnt the best but okay, the 308 was i think a bit better,i live up north and i havent seen anyone keep a v8 tojo cool in summer,ok on the hiway but start working them in the bush on a 40c degree day and they overheat, seen lots spent on trying but never seen one stay cool, love my 2f never plays up in the heat,v8 sounds nice but, good luck with it,i have heaps of parts so maybe i can help ya with some

I have an aftermarket rad from the states it will work fine keeps a 475hp 350 from heating up when crawling. I do need a new seat since Ive been told that if its ripped It wont pass blueslip insp. It has a red 253 but I do have a blue 253 thats been mildly worked over cam heads intake dissy headers though they may not fit
