I'm in the middle of sponsorship season at work and an idea occurred to me today about creating a cycling team or club for Mudders.

Are there enough racing types and or cycling enthusiasts on this board? Would there be a benefit to Woody and the site? Would anyone here want to help run the team?

...just an off-the-cuff idea that I thought I'd bounce off the group. Whatcha think?

We usually take the Cruiser to most races--actually met Woody a couple years ago at 24 Hours of Big Bear in WV when the FJ trail team was there. I think one of prerequisites might be to show up to events (when practical) in a Land Cruiser?

Just throwing ideas around. I don't race much anymore (at least not competitively) but still plan to hit up a 24-hour race or two and a 100-miler next year.

A IH8MUD mtb jersey would be nicely ironic.

interested...keep the ideas coming :)

The bikeMS ride has teams to raise money and awareness for MS. Maybe the team could be a multi-sponsored ... IH8MUD, TLCA, Blue Ribbon, as possibilities. We are a diverse group helping in numerous ways across the nation. In effect, get the 'flag' out there showing all that we are good people too.

There were two beautiful 60 series wagons at the CX race in Estacada, OR yesterday. I was thinking about them and the irony of a IH8MUD jersey as I was sliding around in the slop. Pix here - https://www.pdxcross.com.

I figure it would be a loose club/race team/whatever and even though I race for a local team, I'd be proud to fly the MUD colors here and there.

We could always put together a group buy on jerseys -which Woody can sell on the merch part of the site. I've got a contact at Castelli if there's enough interest.

I'd be interested in a IH8MUD jersey if there were clydesdale sizes.

Not much of a strictly bike racer...but I adventure race every chance I get. I haven't seen any cruisers at my adventure races, but I'm game for a ih8mud jersey.

The last 24hr race I was in, things were so muddy we had to dip our bikes in a stream to 'de mud' them. We'd have to spray the rear derailer with water bottles to keep them functioning. Yup....i hate mud.

Here's another thought. Last June, our area Tour de Cure for the American Diabetes Association was the first in the nation to hold a mountain bike ride in addition to the usual road metric centuries and half centuries. Our friend runs the local Tour de Cure event and my wife and I planned, laid out, and marked the mountain bike course for him. Also helped him with course and event logistics and supplied volunteers to help pull it off.

He said the ADA may spread the format across the country to other chapters that want to hold charity mtb rides. So, could have the mtn bike angle, and the charity ride angle, for ADA. Not saying there couldn't be road events, either. It's all bikes.

Further, I'm thinking of a different trailer concept that combines the expedition trailer with mtn biking--been thinking of a low profile enclosed cargo trailer that bikes would fit in, out of the elements, and then still have room for stuff like propane cylinders and other toys, as well as an RTT on top without going over the height of the 80 when travelling. Could plaster IH8MUD MTB Team on the sides!

Not just racing, but used with any expedition-style camping and riding trip.

Adventure racing would work well, too.

Oh yeah, there always oughta be clydesdale sizes in mtn bike jerseys!

I would be in to all these ideas. I used to mtb race, not really anymore, but I am planning on doing White Rim next spring, probably in my 80, sounds like the type of combined/hybrid trip you are thinking about.

I'd buy a cool looking jersey

I'm down 40lbs in the last 6 months due to mtb and agree clydes need jerseys too.

A nice traditional IH8MUD jersey would be cool, but even cooler if it were a loose fitting 1/2 sleeve like the sample below. :wrench: That way you can wear it around even if not during a ride/race.

I'd do a couple races in a Mud jersey in '10. And then I'd rock it till you couldn't wash the stink out of it during Crested Butte vacation week.

But no club cut for me -- can't have any material flapping around

Any graphic designers here that would volunteer to mock up some designs for both traditional xc and dh style jerseys? ...respecting Woody's sizing and color requirements for use of the IH8MUD logo of course.

Costs will be impacted by minimum orders, so it would be more cost effective for everyone if we could agree on one design and one style. On the other hand, if we can get enough serious racers involved, then I could work towards putting together a sponsorship package and aim for getting some of them for as close to cost as is feasible - as well as pulling in sponsorship from other resources.

I've had really good luck ordering jerseys from champ-sys.com they only have a 10 piece min order and the jerseys are $45.00, dye sub printing, good quality

count me in for 1 large if this comes around

thats a good idea.

I would like to have a mud jersey too. I bike a lot, race some and help with our local fat tire festival. I will check back to this thread......

Just a rough out using the official Mud colors and some recognizable site features. The Mud colors lend themselves really well to the old-school Molteni look -- especially if the ih8mud front panel were to go all the way across to the side panels, maybe bordered by strips with Mud text running in them. You could put Mud vendors who wish to participate and TEQs and crap on there if they give you logo art. Anyway, an idea for a look . . .
