Hallo all....I got '77 FJ40.Does anybody know if I can use ignition switch for lockable steering wheel on nonlockable steering wheel column? On igniton switch for lockable column is part which is sticking out so I think to cut it out,but not sure if it would fit...Thanks Mike

I think he's referring to the ignition key lock at the top of the cylinder. I have a 73 with no "button" but the only available column covers from Toyota have the provision for the button (ie: hole in the top). I've always wondered if I could put an ignition assembly with the button into my 73 column...

They are making two different Ignition key switches...Both look about the same. One is for non lockable column ,another one is for lockable column...On ign.key switch for lockable column there is a longer stick sticking from the back which most likely locks the steering wheel..If I want to use this Ign.key lock and remove the long back part(other than the back part they look similar) can I use it in my 77 nonlockable steering column?Yeah they only making that plastic shell with small hole on top,but it don't bather me at all...I have been fitting temporary aftermarket door lock today and part is made wrong(have to file 1/16 on each side of groove)to be able slide the pin from inside of the door around the door lock...another thing-aftermarket door handle part was rubbing the side so bad I have to remove it and door back lock and cut the part of it out..Just a lot of fitting...And few more problems but it fits OK now..I will replace the parts with OEM if I can found them later..Thanks for responses..

Just tested, so I can give you the definite answer: The ignition cylinder lock for lockable column is plug and play replacement for the one without lockable column. You don't even have to take out the long back part. That's good news for anyone wanting to replace all the locks and still have a common key. Saves a lot of money to get the whole set.
