SOG - Multi Tool - Made with little gears that give you more grip than any other multi tool plier on the market.

SOG - Seal Pup - Fixed Blade. Amazing.

Plus, they're local! (To us WA guys!)

The knife I literally carry every day is a Van Hoy Snaplock. I originally bought it for backpacking because of it's minimalist design, but have carried it with me everywhere for years. It is so light and thin that you don't notice it in your pocket. It has held up very well to some tough use.

Really?

Fallkniven F1. Why? It's designed as a survival knife for the Swedish Military. It's the right size for a multitude of tasks and the steel is superb. I own two in custom leather sheaths that also carry a large firesteel.

fallkniven.com seems to be down at the time of this posting but there's some good info there.

Cold Stel SRK. This thing is a knife, a pry bar, a hammer and a paper weight. The blade is like a quarter inch thick and its cheap. Great knife. Emerson makes a great pocket knife too

Check out this guys destruction testing of some name brands:

I am starting to learn about knives, and collecting a few for the trailer, truck, and all round camp use. Like many other things its as simple or as complicated as you want to make it.

I appreciate everyones ideas and suggestions. It has given lots of info to work with.

I have owned several benchmade knives and they are incredible. A little bit pricey, but if you are looking for a quality knife that is going to last a long while, you can't beat a benchmade, in my opinion.

As far as multi tools go, SOG is one helluva option. I've owned several Gerbers and other multi tools and they all end up breaking. I have had my SOG for going on 6 years now and she is still going strong.

Another thing to look at when buying a knife is the type of metal the blade is made of. Stainless steal is easy to sharpen but they don't hold their edge very long at all. I suppose it's all personal preference.

Jimmy Lile

I have not found better knives, Jimmy Lile ,hand made knives from Arkansas. Nothing feels better than hand made in the U.S.A. MIke

I was down in Russellville, AR for an extended business trip, and decided to go visit Jimmy's shop. Nice knives and all, but - when I asked about "Combat / Utility" knives, he seemed stuck on trying to make me buy one of his Rambo knives. The rest seemed more ... interesting / pretty .... than utilitarian. And, I wasn't going to pay THAT much for a knife ... $250 is about my limit, and that would have to be a combat knife, not a fancy pocket knife.

not my daily carry, BUT a GREAT knife, i bought mine about 5 years ago, NEW ( from a friend of mine)......he had never used it, in the box.......... http://www.randallknives.com/catalog.php?action=modeldetail&id=2

the trapper model, stag/leather handle----awesome knife...........my friend told me the other day, he had another one ( RANDALL) ordered and it was a 5 year wait...:eek:

I need to send my off for a refurb, but I have an Axis Osborn Benchmade that I have been using for about 7 years now. I have other knives (CRKT, UK dive, swiss) but this is my DailyKnive because of the profile. Its a slim, no snag knife. My CRKT M16 (think thats it) one rips my pants up in a day.

Speaking of refurb, anyone else sent their Benchmade's off to the factory before? I need a new blade (tip broke from an unnamed family member using it as a screw driver) and new brass washers for the AXIS system. But after 7 years I figure it needs it.

I've sent in knives a bunch of times, b/c i used to sell them and had to deal with warranty stuff.
If you want, you can buy a blade from the factory for pretty cheap and install it yourself, or send it in if you want. It'll prob be less than $50 for the blade and the brass washers. A cheaper solution would be to just grind down the tip. Take your time and dip it in water often.
Benchmade is an awesome company to deal with. I've screwed up my hardware, sent in the knife, and they've just given me a new one.

Also, with the CRKT M16, polish down the rough spots on a jewlers wheel or with a dremel tool.

I didnt think about polishing down the CRKT M16, its the little nub to flick the blade out. I dont use it unless I go camping or something. It's a trusty knife, but like some watches, I see no use in wearing them 24/7. I pick and choose for the occasion.

Thanks for the heads up on the Benchmade stuff. I dont know why I didnt think to ask about just ordering the parts. It's a simple knife to break down/assemble.

I have used my Swiss Army Climber for 25 years now for backpacking. I also have picked up a SpyderCO, knife, which is made in Golden CO. GREAT Knives.

I also came across this one if you want some serious action.

MPK10-Ti 10 Titanium Knife [MPK10-Ti] - $319.00 : MissionKnives.com, The Toughest Knives in the World!

the Ti knife looks interesting, but i'd never use it. You'd be better off getting a spyderco dive knife with H2 steel or a SOG. Ti doesn't hold an edge very well.

Just sayin:meh:

daily carry:

Spyderco Caly3

camping carry/car carry:

Gerber LMF II A.S.E.K Survival Knife

Benchmade Mini-Griptililian
or
Victorionox Swiss Army (multiple styles)

I have had a Swiss Army knife of one flavor or another since I was 16 (1989). Dorky, but useful and the easiest to sharpen of any sized knife I've owned. . .
