If you could only carry one knife what would it be?

One knife only I would have to go with a Neplaese Khukri. These things are unbreakable, sharp as hell, and amazingly versatile. Not to mention that they look mean as hell. I always have one in my 40 just in case.

Leatherman Wave. Tough as they get. Had mine for years and abuse it daily. Has saved the day more than once.

I was p***** with my wave the locks on the blade kept failing and the small srew driver lasted a week. the knife was about 3 years old and I was just ready to send it back when the streched leather pouch allowed the tool to be pushed out bounce once and rattle several floors down a service duct:crybaby:
Best knife was a one of a kind swiss army my brother made on his apprenteship while visting the factory is switzerland now carry a small gerber and a spyderco knife.
The spyderco is razor sharp and cuts rope like nothing else.

Been carrying an early Benchmade Emerson CQC7 for years. Reliable, rigid action, keeps a good edge, and is very tough. Ugly though.... ;-)
Too bad gransfors doesn't make knives.

I got one of these for grad. An wicked little knife. Kershaw Whirlwind 1560

I also have a leatherman wave. I don't like packing it around too much though.

I bought this Spiderco for my whitewater kayaking vest. This knife is a slick little thing.
h-1 doesn't rust even when in salt-water. Considering I do 90 percent of my paddling in tidal rapids.

I love the microtech's i have a makora as my everyday knife.

Emersons

I still have a Emerson CQC7 but now I carry the CQC11 as a daily carry. It is alot easier to maintain. I like the blade on the CQC7 but it is a pain in the butt to sharpen in the field. I also didn't like that the blade was only beveled on one side. So to sharpen the knife you only did one side. The CQC11 has a more traditional blade and is a snap to bring back to a razor's edge in the field.

Only one knife, buy any Emerson knife and don't look back. They are pricey but worth every penny when your life depends on it.

I def love my Emersons. Cqc7 and karambit are my daily carry.
If you put a high polish on the chisel grind on the cqc7, then it will be far easier to maintain an edge when out in the field. I touch it up w/ some cardboard or the palm of my hand before and after use. If you make it a modified chisel edge then it will be even easier to maintain the edge.

I will have to dig out the CQC7 and try your suggestion. I gave up on it for field use simply because of the type edge. I can get it razor sharp at the house but had problems in the field. CQC11 is very easy to keep razor sharp anywhere.

also keep in mind that a chisel grind will never feel as sharp as a hollow or flat v grind. Even though you can't shave with it, the chisel grind will still allow you to cut and wedge through material. The chisel grind edge is more robust in the field setting and damn near impossible to roll the edge. Different types of edge for different application.
Many people spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on exotic blade steels[s30v, zdp189, and other crucible steels], but you can do most everything with a beefy 440c blade and a couple razor blades. This is coming from someone that has prob $10k in steel. I find that 154cm has a very good balance of wanted characteristics while allowing for easy maintenance.

Just sayin...

Only one hmm... for EDC I would and do carry- Benchmade 800s with carbon fiber scales... ooolala! :D

All the blade you'd need, and classy to boot. I also rotate a few others:

BM 520 Presidio- perhaps the most bombproof of all time.

BM 6150 Mini Rukus Auto

BM 710-801 in CPM M4

BM 941- classy and functional!

Benchmade 9100 auto stryker. Good enough for our USAF para troops, good enough for me.

For me it is my Bark River Highland Special. I've had a lot of knives and any of BRKT's are, as far as I'm concerned, the best in the world.

Aside from their superior design, build, etc, they have no questions asked lifetime warranties.

www.BarkRiverForums.com is a good recourse :)

I have to go with the tried and true Gerber Gator, never in my truck without it in the console.

I own a few benchmades and they are the best value out there. They will shapen and tune or replace all the carring hardware for 5$ tyd made in usa (except entry level "cheap"). My griptillan has seen a few countries now and is prefect if you wear gloves and need to use it. I have a custom osborne for anytime else BM will not fail you

I bought a Kershaw Whirlwind with a born on date of Nov 08 recently to replace my old buck knife that I finally managed to break... I love this thing!
