The upper echelon of mediocrity.
If a rear exhaust system was available in production run quantities, say for 98-04, what would be some of the considerations or benefits that you would want, and perhaps, how would they be prioritized?. I've read through several other threads and the obvious targets should be addressed, such as high clearance, not too costly, lifetime materials - SS, ...???

Would you want something that kept the peace and quiet, or quiet until you stepped on the loud pedal to let the world know that V8 is in the house?

Also, since performance gain of 178HP is not realistic, I'll only ask that we get 92HP gain. Bolt-on, mind you. At full gross weight + 4,600 Lbs in back, while towing an 8k Lb load. Going uphill. In the snow. Passing everything but the gas station. And, we should also be reasonably expected (guaranteed) to achieve 17.5 MPG, as well. Almost forgot that part.

Yeah, right.

OK, at least it should uncork the back end to help eeeck out any performance gains if something is installed on the front end (i.e., DT headers), with installation being a  and :banana:job.

If some or most of the input could be engineered into an aftermarket system, is there any interest? (I ask this separately from the above "considerations/input" because some will have great ideas & input, but would not buy).

From what I have gathered, the meager performance gains aren't worth the cost. Borla has had a top-tier unit designed for the 100 out for years. If these showed substantial HP gains, I would imagine a lot of people would be running one. My "barometer" for the consensus on the Borla is a brand new unit that has been for sale in the classifieds section for over 2 years.

I figure if I lived in a high-salt region and my 100 was due for a new exhaust, I would probably purchase a Borla, but as it stands now, there doesn't seem to be anything out there compelling enough for me to rip out the OEM exhaust system and replace it with something aftermarket. Not trying to shoot you down, just looking for a good enough reason to make a change.

If HP gains aren't possible, the only reason, other than just needing a new exhaust, would sound. Getting some kind of V8 Rumble sound would be nice. But it'd have to be pretty cheap for anyone on here to buy one just for the sound.

Let's figure out a sub $7k turbo set up instead.

My truck came with the Borla. If it hadn't, I wouldn't bother paying for one unless I really wanted stainless steel because of salt. My understanding is that there is a problem with it and skidplates. My truck doesn't even have the stock ones, so I can't really speak to that.

A new exhaust will give you an easier to drive car, but only when you have the headers done. That are my thoughts.

it has to fit with skid plates. borla doesnt...

I've heard that the headers would let loose an extra 20hp...

But honestly I'd probably do it only for the sound. I love a classy V8 idle that really rips when you smash the hammer.

Riceburners.

You don't need to "hear" what headers do.... they actually add zero to the sound... look in my signature for the power.

You were only getting 188hp before the headers? I thought the non-VVT-i 2UZ put out closer to 230 and the VVT-i engines were ~268.

Those are advertised horsepower and torque numbers, at the flywheel... Once you add the drivetrain and measure at the tires you get losses. Typical for a heavy 4x4 is about 20% from stated.... 188HP is right in the game.

It's for sound only...maybe slight weight reduction. In fact a less restrictive exhaust will likely result in a loss of low end torque.

i would change gears before i would buy exhaust and other little odds and ends if my truck needed more "power" due to tire size changes or other factors.

i have just accepted that it is a heavy truck. if i wanted more power/acceleration/speed i would get something entirely different.

So far Loud has confirmed the Borla will not work with the Slee Skid plates which are a little different than the BOIR. I have been looking at my BOIR skids for a long time and I think (no confirmation yet) the Borla system would work. But, like many others in this thread... I would only change the exhaust system is it needed it not for power. Mine looks pretty rusty right now...

Gears and lockers are higher on my list....

If some one has confirmed that a Borla system will not work with the BOIR skids, please let us know.

Will the borla work on a 100 with the stock skids? I have a huge hole in my muffler and a new one is like $400 bucks. I think I can get an entire Borla Cat Back for $800. I don't want my Landcruiser to sound loud though. Should I just get an OEM muffler? I also run a trailer hitch.

It will work with stock skids. Check the classifieds for a brand new one that has been for sale for over 2 years.
