I know i have heard talk about this, my mind must be going but i head TLCA sold somthing like this, i know SOR does but that is damn pricy. I'm gathering a list for parts for a de-smog. i know i need to pick up some vac line, erg block off plate, and a smog pulley....i know i can gut it, but would rather just have an idler there.

I still don't understand why you actually need it.

AC unit is adjustable, alt is adustable. is it the PS pump???

Pull the smog pump and put a sah PS pump in its place. Easy swap, cheap, and you will love it.

Second getting one from Jim C. I will get one soon for my 60 too. ;)

what?

what is a sah pump?

is that one of those, sagihow, or saginaw, sagisho, or however you spell it.

I paid under $100 for the Jim C pulley, that was a couple of years ago. Way cheaper then the SOR version...

:flipoff2:

saginaw pump (canned ham variety).

Cost about $30 typically at a junkyard.

Increase your steering exponentially.

cheap, but is it easy too?

i like cheap and easy, or expensive and easy, but i don't like cheap and hard. how much "work" would it take to put it a $30 saginaw pump? I currently do not have power stearing.

use the stock air pump mount. Make a "C" mount that connects to the stock mount and is slightly wider than the sag pump.

Use washers as "shims to make sure that the pully lines up.

Go to Autozone or pepboys and get a GM "alternator" adjustment bracket (chrome of course) put a slight "z" bend in it. Bolt it to the water pump.

Done..

A lot easier than it sounds.

And even with hydro assist, the stock pump sucks donkey nuts..

Forget the pulley, and just get a Dayco #22528 belt. That lets you remove the smog pump completely. It bypasses the alternator also, but since the alt is a double pulley, that's not an issue. You'll have to adjust the idler just above the A/C compressor out quite a bit ot tighten the belt, but it's a much better route to go then installing an idler.

Then again, this is assuming you're doing this to a 3FE :D

I have a bout 50 pics I need to get of my junk.

I'll post one soon.

Oh my bad. Disregard my original post then :D

Okay, you are going to have to use your imagination here.

This is an image taken straight up into the engine compartment.
The bar on the right is the steering shaft.

The rough surface at the left of the pic is the stock Smog pump bracket.
The smooth surface is some 1/2" (I think) square tubing
I welded a nut on each end of the tubing to act as a bushing for the stock smog bolt to ride in.

What you can't see is a "U" shaped bracket that is welded to the square tubing and actually bolts to the power steering pump.

a bit clearer now?
