I did some search and was able to find the high idle issue, but I have a question about low idle speed. Interesting, when the truck (85 BJ70) is plugged in overnight there is no idling issue, after I start her up, she idles at first mark which is about 500rpm. After it warms up a bit, it goes between second and third. But, if she is not plugged in, the idle is below first mark and I have to use hand throttle to bump it a bit.
Is it a problem or is it a normal diesel behavior?????????????????

Thanks,
Alex

Could be just a bit of a tired engine with one of the cylinders down on pressure that makes cold starts a little rough.

Totaly normal imo. Hand throttles are a lovely thing...

1st start of the morning...winter/spring/summer/fall...I bump the idle up just a tad till it warms up and smooths out, unless it has a cold high idle like some of the newer ones coming in have.

So true Greg, you cannot compare a plugged in 3B to a cold start as the head and pre cups are already warmed.

Same thing happens with my girl, it is just cold man, when it warms up it goes away. Nothing to do with a tired motor.

Sounds normal.

Just set the hand throttle at 1000 rpm. Then before driving remove the hand throttle. Otherwise it too will creep up to a few hundred higher. Then you have power on while you are braking, or too much for clutch.

A rough low idle is just a diesel waking up.

For Tapage 0 is not cold. Its balmy and is beer drinking temperature on the patio. :) Many days I wish it was 0.

... then, I long let you warming up your 3B at... -15C (or any other canadian temp) ?

With my 13B-T I disconnect the temperature sensor for the glowscreen when the temperature goes below -15°C at the beginning of winter, I also plug in the heater in the lower rad hose for ~4hrs before start-up. On startup I use the hand throtle to set the idle to 800 RPM, and let it warm up till the RPM increases to 1000 RPM, then back off on the hand throttle.

Wow ! someone think about me a write it in french ! Merci ! :) :) :)

John... I do about the same as you... but I wonder if someone can give me how long he wait before moving the cruiser. I wait ±2 min. before driving slowly(what I belive is OK) but I just need other opinion.

Yes I do about the same, sometimes a bit longer when it's extreme cold below -20°C. I drive for about a km with the RPMs below 1500 before giving enough throttle for the turbo light to come on.
