Hi Folks, I recently bought a BJ40 in CentAmerica and I'm not finding VIN, Engine, and color codes on any of the U.S. based links to info (SOR, CCOT, Toyodiy, etc.) to identify year and original paint.

Here's what I can get from the badly corroded fire wall plate (inner fender/passenger side):
Model: BJ40 LV K (I guess that's: B Diesel, LHand Drive, Hardtop, 4 speed)
Frame: BJ 40-003833; Color: 532 LA11
Engine: B ???? (only the B is readable)
Number Stamped on Engine Block: 11411-56010

Any advice or info is appreciated.

Are you sure that's the frame number? Seems too short.
Try looking at the frame for the number there.

The frame number is a big part of the mystery b/c the number on the plate matches the frame exactly, but I can't find any online registry (with those numbers) that gives a clue about the production year.

I did see online that 532 was Mustard (for domestic FJ40s), but I don't see a hint of that color anywhere on this cruiser. The color now is two tone blue (and rust) so somebody did a heck of a job covering up the yellow.

The frame number on my March '71 FJ40 has the same number of digits. Your frame number is 90,000+ lower than mine.

I don't think you'll find a VIN# on trucks from Central America.
My BJ40 LV-KC is from feb. 1978 and serial # is BJ40-014339
Engine stamped B with # 11411-56020
Block # 11411-56020.webp
The engine serial # you'll find here;
Engine # 0174436.webp
Just before/below the injector close to the firewall.

You can't compare a FJ40 VIN with that of one on a BJ40. FJ were around a lot longer an will have a higher number for the same time period as BJ.

You may find some original paint inside the glove box or behind the instrument cluster

My BJ40 is "reported to be" a 78 however the casting number on the block is like yours 11411-56010. I am not sure where this part changed to 11411-56020, or what the difference is between part numbers...

Hi Greg

Often when you enter a part number in the EPC, it will tell you which models (and the relevant production periods) where that part was used. But unfortunately that doesn't seem to work for block numbers. So I can't tell you anything about 56010 except that it appears to be an earlier 2977cc B-engine block than 56020.

But that dipstick on your injection pump (shown in your other threads) dictates that your engine (and therefore most likely your whole vehicle) cannot be later than September 1977 as far as I can see..

PS. In the thread Rudi referred you to, note that a 1975 BJ40 (owned by Canarias in Spain) has the same block number as yours.
