Hi All:

Humm . . . . . this is an interesting one! :) Remember, here in North America we are most familiar with the high-pinion 8 inch front diff as present in the 80 Series wagon. But, the OP has a FJ73 and is on one of the Dutch Caribbean islands.

This axle is definitely intended for a SUA leaf-sprung rig. And, in comparison to the diff drain plug the pinion certainly seems higher than normal.

I don't remember what the change-over dates were, maybe late 1990s when the 70 Series went to the 8 inch diff in the front axle? Any idea what rig "donated" this front axle?

Regards,

Alan

Hi Guys,

The front axle came off my 12/1990 FJ73. I'm doing a rebuild on it. New knuckle set, new brake lines, 4Runner calipers, new rotors, new breather.... new coating.
It's leaking oil. When I park it in my driveway, slightly nose up, it's leaking oil from the flange. Would I be able to take off the flange to change the oil seal without changing the bearing preload or messing things up?
There's no diff shop here :censor: (just donkey farms)

What do I need to do to find out if I can just swap the oil seal, or crate it and ship it to a shop on the mainland? $$$$$$ !
