I am sure I am not alone on this. I have searched and cannot find what this is. I could call Mudrack or Orangefj40 but others in the future can do a search and see what I am talking about or post there own question here.

What is this on the top of my transmission. It looks like some kind of sensor. I did not have it on my 3 speed. I did search www.sor.com and did not find it there. There is a wire about 8 inches which comes out of it. Thanks,

I would have to agree with mel lowe. It should be your back up light switch. You could put an ohm meter on it or check continuity with it in neutral or any of the forward gears and then in reverse. Out of reverse it should read infinite or no continuity and in reverse you should have some resistance or continuity.

The back up light switch is located on the lower edge of the top cover, just barely showing in the picture.

The switch you are wondering about is a top-gear indicator, to tell the 'emissions computer' that you are in fourth, or top gear, iirc.

Thanks again Poser. I did not have a better pic of my tranny to show the back up indicator light sensor. I made this post easy for a search if someone else has this question in the future. Since this is going into a 69 fj40, can I just cut the wire and forget about it?
