Ideas For Future Club Runs

June is always a good time because it ain't TOO hot yet, and the nights are fantastic for outdoors camping.

Question to y'all: would the annual event be something like the "CSC Run for the Border" and do something like the devil's highway (not one other club does an `expedition' run), or would it be something like TTORA (which I havn't yet seen so can't comment too much) with more crawling?

I think the "Premier" event should be a basecamp type thing with 4 or 5 runs each day. It should range from mild to wild with everything in between. What's nice about the TTORA event is exactly that. Similar to the Cruise Moab event, it has stuff for every skill level. The more people you can please with their own types of runs, the better your turnout will be. The better the turnout, the more funds you raise as a club to cover any expenses and the better the raffle gets. The better the raffle gets, the better the turnout gets and the cycle continues until you have the sickest event in the southwest. I also like the Florence Junction location because of the proximity to services and litterally hundreds of miles of trails. It's my opinion that anyone familiar with the area would tend to agree. Even a run like Sibley Mansion is doable with a realatively large group based out of FJ.

Thouroughly confused on that last post Rhino?!?

The other nice thing about a base camp event is that you can always have stuff going on at camp and it makes evening festivities that much more festive. It also gives everyone a common place to meet back up and throw impromptu unorganized runs both day and night as these are always popular.

I feel June is way too hot to hold a Major event down near the valley. I wheel here in June, I grew up here and can handle it. I would be concerned about out of state visitors coming down for 4 days in the sun and heat passing out on us. Sure don't want to kill anyone with heatstroke at our events. I think that anything we do from May through August will have to be up north.

i just hope with the new found sunflower to more peeps since the 4x4 rag piece it doesnt get any more trashed

At the first big washout there were two stock tacos turning around, they were saying the guide book is wrong this is not an easy trail, our trucks can't make it! We walked it and talked about lines and they made it to the processing building. Looked to be having a great time with their new found truck capability. On the way out talked to a guy in a heep rubicon with the same deal, it's too hard!

The whole "doesnt get any more trashed" is a nice fantasy, enjoy what's left. If the "peeps" don't destroy it the forest service will bulldoze it to protect us from a board falling on someone's head. :flipoff2:

This state is getting built up way too fast, I won't be at all surprised to open the paper and see a full page add for the new cozy community at Sycamore Creek of 27,000 condos! :flipoff2:

To have a premier event we need to maximize what we have that is unique, like desert with Saguaros and great weather when others have terrible weather. So the best time for that is October, November or March? The desert is usually greener in the spring.

To follow on this, March or November. November is awesome here of course. March is better, but people are already planning on CM, GSMTR, etc and may think we have less an opportunity. People are Buggin' to go out in the rest of the coutnry (NM,TX,CA excluded) by Nov.

Good point. Most of the other large events IIRC are springtime events. Even a late winter event here could be well rec'd here. Maybe even Februrary. If we want to draw a crowd from out of state it's got to be when the weather here is GOOD. Wich is most of the year excluding Summer. The other consideration is traveling weather for those who want to bring thier rigs from far and wide. Icy mountain passes for attendees are no good either. We'll get it nailed down sooner than later but these are the types of things we need to consider.

Can Someone put together an event calendar for annual runds lke Cruise Moab and BHCC, Rubithon and such?

Except for this year where I swear I havn't seen so many rainy days between Oct - Feb. Wow! October would also be cool as a travel month. It can still be a little hot, but I used to love coming down to AZ from CO during late October for that very reason. The rest of the country has cooled off and you start to yearn for the summer again. It's not quite xmas time so noone has the holiday bug yet.

Atop that, roads are generally good everywhere else allowing facile travel.

Doesn't the IH8MUD calendar contain them all?

Not seeing an IH8MUD calendar. Oh, got one on my wall, duh. Yup! I'll take her home tonight an' do some figuring.

One other thing that I've noticed in planning events for the last couple of years is the most people don't do anything from November - January because of the Holidays.

I agree that it would have to be like October or early March.

The Swanky boys put on an AZRun every year for the Nissan offroad community. It's pretty well recieved even though there is also an April Gone Moab event.

Rush... don't... um, rush. Look at it like we have an entire year to plan "THAT" event. Let's worry about putting together some smaller club runs involving the guys who are out of town most of the time. Even if we decide that "THAT" run needs to be this year, we still have the fall. Like we said before, Sept through November is damned good wheelin weather in AZ. Those smaller runs also give us a place to discuss face to face how we feel about the way "THAT" event should go down when it's time.

Well, I'm cool with that. I like the sound of Oct. or Nov.
Maybe people reading this thread outh to throw out specific area suggestions, then we can take 'em and have a poll thread, just to see where the most people could find themselves getting to.
I myself am down for just about anywhere, and would prolly sacrifice a trip to Moab in the fall to have plenty of time and money for a good Az. Cruiser trip.
I like the idea of Sunflower Springs, Florence Jct. area, Table Mesa area, Bartlett Lake area, Sycamore Creek. But I think the more centralized we can make it the better the turn out will be.
