ah! real Men have 3/4" breaker bars...! :D

who needs a wussy 3/4" breaker bar when they have "manly" 37" arms....now that is leverage.

Just thought I would at least show up since it is my post and I solved this problem months ago. And since then the breaker bar has made life much easier. My tool set is hodgepodge and that is ok with me.

Anyways on to installing my CB. the more I read the more intimidated I get. I mean in my HS days I installed many a car audio systems but damn, eveyone makes CB's sound very fickle  . Only one way to find out...dive right in knowing that this board is here for me if need be. Deadline is SNT.

CB is simple.

Run two 12ga wires (red/black) to the battery; fuse the +12v side at the battery. Drill hole in the center of the roof; mount Wilson 1000 antenna, run coax down headliner to CB.

Alternate (since you don't mention a rear bumper) is to mount the antenna to the front ARB and snake the coax through the engine bay to the CB.

Alternate #2. Forget the CB and get your ham ticket and a dual band UHF/VHF radio. Mounting is basically the same.

B,

I went with the Cobra 75 wx st (Rig is Wifes DD and I wanted to maintain the factory look - read I HAD to maintain the factory look when CB not in use). I have a 4ft. Wilson fiberglass antenna. Fold over spring mount from walcott CB, Firstik coax. w/ fire ring. Going to mount the antenna to the right side of the ARB bull (I prefer rear bumper but as I don't have one yet, one won't for at least a couple of years, this will have to do for now), I am going to wire in an Aux. Fuse Box like Slomo did for his 3 radios in his write up. 10 ga to the fusebox. 12ga from the CB to fuse box. I am also going to replace my factory 12V cig. lighter and ad an additional one somewhere and wire both of those into the aux. fuse box so that I can use them when the car is not on. I will then have 3 more avail spots on the aux fuse for the future (lights, fridge, etc.) That is the plan. i hope it all works out.

Ham would be nice but I am not there yet (too perm. for the :princess: and none of the people I wheel with have them. i am sure it will be in the distant future though as more and more people go to them and this rig becomes the "extra" vehicle.

Your set up will work, but the worst place to put the antenna is on the bull bar. It's too low, the grounding is poor and the signal to the rear is blocked by the body of the truck. It would be better to have a mag mount on the roof and remove it when not in use.

Alvarorb has a clean set up for a permanently installed CB and a mag mount antenna. His radio like yours, is in the dash. He has an antenna pigtail that runs to the glove box. When he needs the antenna on the roof he runs the wire to the glove box and hooks it up. When not in use the antenna is off the truck. You could PM him for pictures.

I agree with B though. Move up to Ham and drag your club along with you.

I know it is not going to be an ideal set up. That will come later. I will be using it very infrequently and will only use it rig to rig on the trail. From my research I should be able to get a couple of miles out of my radius with this set up. I think that is plenty for my needs. I decided against the mag mount simply from the looks of them (and also I hear they get knocked off on the trails). If I am not pleased with the results of this set up then I will not be afraid to go that route. I prob. should have gone with the 5 ft. antenna but if folded down it will extend too far out from the body.

ok I dont know how I would even start to work on my yota if i didnt have my impact wrench let alone my breaker bar. Do like he said and get a breaker bar, they are simple in design so finding a cheap one doesnt nesisarly mean you found a crappy one. also shell out the cash for an impact wrench, it will get you out of so many trouble spots like this. If you dont have or want a compressor get something like this: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=45252 I have a dewalt electric and a bunch of air driven ones from various manufacturers. but usually i just use the electric one for convience. also the other thing you can do on the spot if you dont have a breaker bar is link two open end wrenches together to get the leverage to turn that bolt. good luck.

Agreed, this is so far from where this thread started, and ended, and started again, and... :flipoff2: :D

I had similar problem just barely

I didn't have time to read all the threads, but in regards to the fill plug, I had the exact same problem a few days ago. It is beat up pretty bad and wouldn't budge. In the end I had to use a brand new 6 point socket( 24 mm of course )and have another person push it tight against the bolt head so it wouldn't budge at all and then I used a cheat bar and on the driver and got it off no problem, however, this was after a frustrating 30 min. of trying to do it myself. I also will be replacing that beat up fill plug and have already ordered it, I replace stuff like that as I encounter them.
