I'm in a pinch here, just got in town and the plan is to drive my 40 on the memorial day trip. A few miles around town since I've been home and the transfer case has decided to start to eat itself! I really want to take the 40 out, any chance anyone has a t-case somewhere locally? I have some parts to swap or I will buy one. Need some love!

Has a solid case, original tranny was a 4speed.

Headed down to Portland to pay WAY to much for a used T-case, if anything pops up in the next 2hrs post up quick I'll check back before I spend the cash down there.

Well, got down there and had a look at the Tcase. Turns out it was for a 3 speed. So no joy. My plan now is to pull the case on Sunday and have poke around. Fingers crossed that it maybe just the bearing for the idler gear. If the gears are not too eaten up then the guys there at Landcruiser NW said they should be able to help get it usable. I have my doubts though as the gears are pretty shiny looking at em through the PTO cover. I have an Orion on order now from orangeFJ45 but in the mean time I'm still in a pinch. Don't think I'll see the Orion (barring a miracle) before I leave town again.

Broke t-case gear.

Well the case is out, not looking to bad, but definitely found a problem! Not sure, but I think it may be a symptom of something else. Looking at the photo the gear that is broken is (sorry for nomenclature) what appears to be the high range gear set. The larger ring to the right of the small broken one has some play in it. Not a lot but I can wiggle it around a bit by hand. I have an Orion on the way and would like to get this one usable but not really interested in a complete rebuild if its unnecessary. What are your thoughts? Think I can replace some bearings and the broken gear and maybe get by with this one till my Orion shows up?

G's. that looks bad. Ask Gorge Orange45 he is down in cali and is a expert on this stuff. Just send him the pic maybe he can overnight you the part you need.
Its hard cause split cases are a dime a dozen It seems like 40s would be as well but I have no idea.
 
Yeah I talked to Georg, I have an Orion on order but it'll be a couple weeks yet.

No luck with Tor, he only could find some 3 speeds. Latest is I do have a tcase ready to go sitting in the back of my other truck right now! Guys down at Land Cruisers NW in Portland found one and got me set up! I'm about to go change in to my garage clothes and start working... Let ya know in a couple hrs!
