OK so i in the middle of my build up and as i play with my flex i find the i am getting no flex (ok a little)out of this 40. what options do i have to get more flex?! and i'd like to stay with springs for now since i'm doing this on a budget.....for now, will be doing air shox and a 3-link but not any time soon. i have heard about swaping out for 60 stock springs and doing a SOA swap but how much flex can i get out of this set up? is there a better set up?

this is what i am dealing with:

Fix your shackle angles. They need to be at 45 degree angles.

Jeremy

yup!

seems to me whoever/most companies give the 40s crappy angles.
a real bummer to see folks spend hard earned $$ and get no flex.

1> shackle angles are terrible...

2> you are spring under....switch to spring over with some worn out FJ40 packs, or use some rear FJ55/60/62 stock packs for more wheelbase (97" or so versus the stock 90")

3> post up more pics....front shock mountings, rear shock mountings, etc....a single side pic isn't much to work with ;)

Once you finally do get some flex, you will be self clearancing those fenders. I suggest just going SO with some stock springs as well. That way you shouldn't have to trim to much.

Jeremy

i think a SOA with stock 40 fronts and 55/60 springs in the rear with some longer shocks

and i'm not afraid to cut the fenders to make room....thanks guys

oh yeah, and at some point, don't forget to hook up the driveshafts :)

<DROOL>......................................and what springs are you running? length?

in the back they are cherokee springs. the fronts are early 80s Toy mini truck rear main leaves mixed with wagoneer springs. Wheelbase is 102.5" with no frame modifications. If I got creative with the spring hangars I could get it out to ~104 without stretching the frame...

On my '74 FJ40 I'm running SOA and spring flip on stock springs unclamped with long shocks. I can lift a tire 3 feet off the ground using a forklift and the other three are still in contact with the ground.

SOA and stock springs do wonders for flex.
