New ones are available for a reasonable price.

Please tell me where and how much . Last tome i checked, i years ago , toyota wanted over $800 for one. So i nded up buying a used one.

There are companies that rebuild harmonic balancers, for $112. Anyone ever done that who can tell me their experience was like?

If i have to pay $500 for a reliable balancer i will. But i dont think that is a very reasonable price considering what it is. Look what $500 can get you today.

just found out that one won't work. It only has 2 V-pulleys. I am having a hard time spending $600 on this item, plus labor.

anybody tried one of these companies that rebuilds them for $115?? They put in a new rubber dampener

just got off the phone with Dale^^^. I'm going to send him my spare 2F 3 groove balancer. he hasn't done one of those exactly, but he has done the F balancers. He needs a complete balancer that has not delammed in order to set the jig for each particular model. once he has done one, it doesn't matter if the balancers sent in are in one piece or 3. they take december off, so get em in while there's still time! will report back...

so he has rebuilt an harmonic balancer for you before?

Lambcrusher, you carry a spare Harmonic Balancer? And I thought my spare parts box was good!

NO, not yet...I'm gunna be a guinea pig, also super cheap, also wouldn't replace with A/M, also believe that rebuilt parts are better than knock off parts...

I don't carry a spare balancer per say, but am known to have a motor or 2 waiting to be used for a rebuild when needed:hillbilly: It worked the last time...the motor in rig started to quit, took spare long to shop and had rebuilt:bounce: the old motor ALMost made it to when the new motor was ready...think it was down for a week(month long process overall) a disease it is; careful you should be;)

I might send one in, too...

And FWIW, the powerbond 3-groove 2F pulley is Comm-Chinese-made. They're avail through O'reilly for about $300.

and at that rate, I'm gunna wait till I can swing an OEM... for another 125-150, the quality will be well worth it IMO

it is one of those 30 year parts, when replaced with similar quality; anything else may not last as long...

Yeah, I'd stick with OE at that price point. For me, too critical a part to rely on aftermarket unless that's all there is ... Before they switched production to China, the Aussie made ones were very nice. I looked at them at SOR ($600). Solid units, without the rubber sandwich, and I still see the Oz made ones pop up on ebay Oz, but with shipping, they're more than OE units. :meh:

You do realize that the OEM Toyota crank pulley costs $585 from Cruiser Dan, or wirh a TLCA 25% discount through Toyota Dallas. And since i just took the plunge and bought one, there are only 5 left in the country, and there will never ever be any kore coming to the US?

I just discovered that the part of the crank that my crank pulley/ HB connects onto has a buggered key, and the shaft is worn a little to a conical shape. I am having my mechanic replace my crank at the cost of $3100. Add the $600 HB I bought, and this lesson has cost me almost $4000.

My advice to you all is to retorque your Harmonic Balancers, and don't be cheap like I used to be, replacing bad ones with used ones. Like my father always said, it is the cheap man who usually ends up paying the most.

Well, you could get a quality reman motor for that price.

really? where? I would love to see it. a quality remanufactured 2F installed for under $4000. total. If that is true, I would have definitely considered it. I am also getting a new gasket installed for my man-a-free header and all new seals.

Well, about 4 years ago, I paid $3400 (So Cal) for a top quality rebuild on my 85 2F. I removed and replaced it, but I can't imagine more than 10-15 hrs of shop labor to R&R it ... Even at $85/hr that's $1275. My estimates on shop time may be wrong, though.

:meh:
