um..... mine was cutting poorly. i had just barely thought to myself (while making this cut) 'hmmm, the sparks this thing is throwing off are really small and fine. maybe i need a new blade'.

then my little strap turned from the clamp and stuck itself into the blade and scared the piss into my pants. well, not really, but almost.

anyway, shouldn't these blades make nice large gritty sparks? that little cut i've highlighted took nearly 2 minutes. it's only a 5/16 thick 1" strap.

yes it should.
where did you get the blade from?
i assume this is in a chop box.
i will only buy "norton" blades or "dewalt" blades.

how the heck are you holding that piece in place?

Clamp that bracket in a vise and go after it with a cut-off wheel in a dremel. That looks like you're going after a mouse with an elephant rifle. (But I know next to nothing about metal working so don't listen to me... :D )

I don't know enough about working metal either, but a small angle grinder with a cutoff wheel and a vice is how I would cut that, and it would take about 15 seconds and be way safer than what you are doing now. I hope you are wearingfull face protection!

Dewalt

I have a Dewalt chop saw and have always used the Dewalt blades from Lowes, about $7.00.

Be careful with those things. I was cutting one day and the POS clamp, unclamped itself while cutting a piece of metal. The piece of metal kicked sideways and the wheel blew apart. It slung s*** all over the shop. There was no abrasive left. It was a new blade and all that was left was the fiber. Fiber was still intact just sitting there bolted the saw.

I just wish I would have taken a picture. Funny as hell once I realized I wasn't bleeding.

how about just using a hacksaw? Shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Cheap. Easy. Safe.....
